An Amazing Christian/Inspirational Romantic Sci-Fi
Alone on a primitive planet light-years from Earth, bio-scientist Aric Lindquist believes she has been abandoned by SARC, the sponsor of her research assignment. In the five months since her assistant disappeared, she has struggled to survive Empusa III’s beautiful but hostile environment. Is SARC punishing her because she accused them of breaking protocol in not safeguarding the indigenous humanoids? After a new assistant finally arrives, Aric’s suspicions escalate.

She drew me into the conflict, both internally and externally, of the main character Aric. Aric was smart, had integrity, and yet still had her flaws and struggles. I did feel like she fell for her assistant a little too quickly, though I assumed that it was inevitable.
Matt Hicks did an excellent job with the audio narrative. The only drawback was that the chapters would often end on a tense, cliffhanger type scene...and then he would state the the next chapter number with very cheery enthusiasm—which feels a bit out of place when you’re listening to more than one chapter at a time.
The other issue I had was with Aric’s name. Though it is certainly a feminine spelling, I know so many male Eric’s, that hearing the word, rather than reading it, continually pulled me out of the story to remind myself that the person being described was female. The book might read, “Aric went outside...” But I would hear “Eric went outside...” This might not be a problem for others, but since I know several Eric’s, I continually struggled to contrive and attach a young woman’s face to the “Eric/Aric” of my imagination. I’m certain Anna never imagined that would be an issue, however!
Still, I really enjoyed it. Such an excellent story with detailed and believable world building, brought to life with terrific narration!
A vivid world!

The main character is a female scientist. She has been living on and studying a new planet for some time. Her parter disappeared, and she believes she’s been stranded without the help of those who sent her, and so she’s been surviving without aid for months. Then a new assistant from agency shows up, but he seems suspicious more than helpful. She isn’t sure what to do, but she’s stuck with him for now.
This book was a very interesting story. I don’t usually read sci-fi, but I enjoyed it very much. The plot and the mystery were good. There was a little romance, and it was sweet and clean. I appreciated that the story was Christian, and the characters’ relationships with God grew.
The details about the sci-fi world were creative and interesting. There were so many things that could kill a person, but the main character had most of it figured out from living there for a while. There were also “aliens” in the story; they weren’t major characters but rather more of an indigenous tribe living on the planet which the scientists were there to observe.
I read this book as an audiobook, and I enjoyed it very much. The narrator was good and enjoyable to listen to. I would listen to his books again.
This book was an entertaining Christian sci-fi novel with a little romance and mystery, and I would be happy to recommend it to others.
I received a complementary copy of his book as an audiobook. I was not compensated for reviewing it, and every option expressed is my own.
A Christian sci-fi novel with sweet romance
