Publisher's summary

The stories of The Path of Most Resistance feature curious nonconformists who find themselves pushing back against strange and oppressive social norms. They are mavericks who transgress the boundaries of convention in their strive for freedom and authenticity. No matter if they’re in a Silicon Valley office, the far reaches of space, or dystopian futures where relationships are subjected to totalitarian control, the characters show unshakable conviction in a world plagued with uncertainty. Each story ushers you into a unique reality that unfolds step by step, leaving you with a disturbing new perception of the world.

In “Blind Date,” two lovers chosen for each other by a hidden control system attempt to peel away the layers of their oppressive reality and peer into what they were not meant to see.

In “Expressing,” a pick-up at an ordinary bar turns into a paranormal encounter.

In “The Path of Most Resistance,” a hiring manager and a job candidate go all-in during an interview that will reshape their lives.

In “Red Flagged,” a random passenger is accidentally exposed as a covert rebel fighting for freedom in a society that dictates what one is allowed to know.

In “Miscalibrated,” an interstellar expedition runs into armed conflict with an alien civilization, in which their best chance of avoiding a nuclear war is discovering the underlying truth about the communication differences between humans and these aliens.

In story after story, author Yoav Ilan displays remarkable creativity and intelligence, showing that sci-fi can be as artistic as literary fiction, and that things are never as they seem.

A fascinating collection

Ray Porter and Yoav Ilan combine on this unique, original, and frankly compelling compilation of short stories. It isn't easy to chose just one favorite, so try to listen to each story individually.

Ilan's writing style aligns well with the always masterful Ray Porter.

Highly recommended. I received my copy of this in exchange for a fair and independent review.

Haunting!

A collection of stories that reveals life on earth and beyond is not all smooth sailing and fun. Rather we are given unique glimpses into relationships, our world, and more that leave the listener slightly off-kilter.

The author, Yoav Ilan, provides unique stories that will leave the listener a bit disjointed. One may wish to listen to one or two again just to capture the true effect of the plot. Each story in this collection has a different setting, plot, twist, and end that leaves the listener with a slightly different perspective on life. Within each story, the characters are well-developed and the plot, along with the twist, delivers powerful imagery. Ilan is deliberate in his reveals and once the story ends, it tends to stay with you well afterward.

The narrator, Ray Porter, delivers a great performance that further enhances each story. I like how he slips from story to story easily and without fail nails each character with a unique voice. His cadence is deliberate and matches the energy found within each story.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

This is a unique set of stories that will haunt the listener for days. It reminds me of the Twilight Zone of the 1960s in many ways. Well worth a listen!

Excellent

I really liked these stories a lot. Well written, unique plots and character’s you care about. Ray Porter was excellent. My biggest complaint is that I want more.

You will think about it for days…

I loved each and every story in this book.
Yoav is as sophisticated as he is methodical. It was felt how much research went into this book, enough to let the reader focus only on the ever-twisting plots, trusting the author to take care of all the rest, not even knowing why.
The stories are thought provoking as they are suspenseful, leaving you thinking about them for days and days after you’ve finished reading them.
There is always a central plot, but also a philosophical observation about humanity, and more so, where we may find ourselves, but all done in a subtle way, as if we are already there.
I loved this book. I recommend it.

Still thinking about this

Literally one of the best titles I’ve picked up as of late. I can’t sing its praises enough - what a creative mind. Only sad cause I need MORE OF IT!!!! So grateful to Mr. Ilan for providing this title for free. I plan to get hard copies for my sci fi friends because I adored it that much.

Definitely worth checking out.

Disconnected.
It's the only real flaw I can find with this collection of stories, and even then, I'm sure it's simply a structural problem with the audiobook. I felt that there wasn't enough information leading into each story, so at times, they blended into one another, and it made it confusing to keep up with the narrative.
The audio, skillfully performed by one of the best in the business, Ray Porter, was enjoyable and engaging.
And the each of the works was interesting and some quite filled with emotion, to the point where you wished you were reading something more substantial than a short story and wanted the characters and plot expanded.
This in particular applied to 'The Path of Most Resistance' - it was a very engaging interview. The characters were brilliant, and it was probably my favourite read of the entire novel. I'd definitely read an expanded novel on this particular plot and would be interested in reading a full novel from this author who has a knack for detailed and emotive storytelling.

This audiobook was provided free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
