About this listen

An apocalyptic supernova flashes over the South Pole. A mysterious mission sent deep into the Amazon. The story of one family’s struggle to reunite…

Max Carver, a down-on-his-luck truck driver and Army vet, joins a rescue mission into Brazil. The target is a utopian tech village, the Colony, hidden in the rainforest and run by a charismatic genius. Max’s pregnant wife, Talisha Carver, is the NSA analyst who intercepted encrypted Colony messages signaling a mysterious impending event.

Dr. Xin Rou is a Chinese researcher working at the IceCube neutrino experiment at the South Pole. On lucky days a single flash might signal the passage of a ghostly interstellar particle. Suddenly, IceCube’s entire array lights up. A million detectors at once. Which is impossible. The Antarctic sky is clear and calm—but she is already running for the door.

Because the world is about to end. But the mystery just begins...

narrator was great. story was good. science a little lite. if all.power and knights and phones in the world were fried the circuits in ham radios would definitely not work.

Is there more?

I enjoyed Ray Porter’s voice as usual, but it was not his best I think.

Story was interesting but the end gave the feeling that there should be more stories to come. In addition the ending felt rushed - hours were spent on a muddy river beach and then suddenly A LOT of interesting explanations for things appeared, but without being further explored. Worth the time but the action sort of stopped a bit early.

Lost me

Was pretty much ok until the Brazilian colony stuff. Clear wood? Inflated drones? Buildings part of trees? What the heck?…

Another engrossing tale!

I started my Matthew Mather reading journey with Darknet. I've been hooked ever since! He has not failed in delivering a complex and engrossing story filled with relatable characters and edge of your seat thrills. I am continuously impressed with his level of technical knowledge and attention to detail in this book. I found myself in the characters shoes, envisioning their surroundings and feeling their feelings. This is the reason that I love reading (or listening to) Mr. Mather's books.

If you believe in Wakanda

this one really requires a huge suspension of belief. I just couldn't keep going. More fantasy than sci/fi.

Great, too short

Love it but I had no idea that it was 1of3. I should have waited until I had all three. Too much suspense.

Fast moving story

Science was hard to follow but moved at a good pace with twists and turns.

Best story by author to-date

I just finished listening to this book. I have most of Matthew's works and this is the first narrated book of his I have. I really enjoyed Ray Porter, but Ray had a great book to read. The plot, the character development, the locations, the dialogue are all top notch. You will enjoy it as the plot is believable. And interestingly, I just spent a week in the Amazon jungle on a mission trip and can totally envision the descriptions that he provided. I can't wait for the sequel to this book.
