About this listen

Why get over your cheating ex when you can get even? John Tucker Must Die meets One of Us Is Lying in a gripping, binge-worthy debut thriller.

His first mistake was underestimating them.

Senior year is going to be perfect. Meghan won't settle for anything less. She's already crushing her classes and dating the star of the basketball team. Nate's friends have been less than welcoming, but it's never easy being one of the only Black kids at a mostly white prep school. Still, Meghan did not expect the scene at pep rally.

Robin and Bria dated Nate too. Correction: are dating him. He never broke up with them, and Meghan is furious.

When Nate is found bloodied and unconscious in the locker room after the big game, suddenly the three teens are prime suspects—and a tenuous alliance may be the only way to clear their names. Except Meghan doesn't remember everything that happened that night, and she's starting to have feelings for one of the exes. One thing is for sure: the more clues they uncover, the more Meghan, Bria, and Robin each look responsible …

I liked this book ! I was looking for something a little different to listen to while I worked and this book popped up ! So first , the negatives . Yeah…there were some holes I wish the author filled in. This book was about 10 hours long and it could have been shorter. Another thing was that all of the characters were pretty one dimensional. I wish we were given a little more background besides this one was rich and this one was biracial . A description of the characters would have been great . Were they exceptionally pretty ? Skin tone ? Eye color ? All black folks don’t look the same .

Second , how many black students attended the school? Was Nate and Noah the only black males ? Weird .

We only hear about physical abuse towards the end of the? What ?

Okay. Now on to the story . I liked it despite the one dimensional characters . Yes, I guessed the assailant early on but again with the plot holes - some conflict or background about the family dynamics would have been helpful to build suspense . Everyone bullying for no reason made no sense . Okay . She was new . And ?! Anyway …

The reason I liked the book was because I could envision it as a tv show . I liked the focus on the black girls and black girl excellence . An epilogue would have been nice to see how the events shaped their future .

I liked the varied relationships between the main characters and the unlikely alliances. The “solutions” was predictable fairly early on but it didn’t ruin the flow of the story.

Great character development
