Publisher's summary

Direct and coldly pragmatic, Niccolò Machiavelli's The Prince is the preeminent guide to winning and maintaining power at the highest levels, where deception and manipulation are necessary tools, and political allies should never be mistaken for friends.

Once a foreign policy official in his native Florence, Machiavelli was ousted by the Medici family. After surviving disgrace and torture at their hands, he penned The Prince to garner their favor. While this effort was ignored, the five-hundred-year-old work endures and is now considered one of the most influential - and controversial - political treatises of all time.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Prince, this edition of The Prince (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

Critics literally never even read or listened to this work.

Let no one say “Machiavellian” again without at least hearing the book for itself. I think people have an idea of what it’s about without ever hearing it. Books have a way of being misunderstood in popular culture because people dislike nuance, and dislike reading (or listening) to books even more. But perhaps they mostly dislike trying to actually comprehend something which may be difficult at first. Which is why great works are easier to write off. It elevates the critic’s ego above the great work with no need to exert effort in comprehension.

Good refresher read

Nothing. Read it before and it was nice to hear it again after having read it in college. Highly recommend as a refresher.

Machiavelli is an overrated moron.

I decided after hearing about this fool all my life to go ahead and listen to the book before I even contemplated actually reading it. I could barely stand listening to his gibberish. There’s a reason why idiots that ever try to succeed with any of this always fail instead! Spare yourself. Don’t bother. Follow the precepts of the Bible instead. You will not go wrong.
