About this listen

Ammon-shur thought that saving the girl and escaping deadly peril in Uruk meant that he would live a safe and happy life in his new home in Ur. With his business prospering, a new daughter just born and everything looking up he is deliriously happy, but he did not reckon with the spread of a deadly new religion that accompanied a massive expansion of the slave trade. Life and liberty become precious commodities as people across Sumeria and beyond are targeted by roving bands of slavers. While slowly worsening domestic troubles lead Ammon to spend more time running caravans to distant cities he runs afoul of slave takers and finds that getting cast into the copper mines of Magan from which few return is just the beginning of his troubles.

THIS BOOK IS A HIDDEN GEM!!!! COULDN'T STOP READIN

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book to several friends! Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down!

What did you like best about this story?

For me the best part of this book is that it always keeps you guessing. I could never tell what was going to happen next. I hate books that make it too obvious about what is going to happen next. I also love the witty banter that the characters have back and forth between each other.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of my favorite parts of this book are the lessons that Ammon-shur is taught by the blind man in the mines. But that is just one of so many other parts of this book that I loved. I can't wait to listen to book 3!

Even more fun than the first

What did you love best about The Prince and the Priestess?

Original setting, lovable characters

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ammon was my favorite character because he was the perfect mix of luck, hubris, bravery, and sheer stupidity. His creative plans were always right on the line of brilliant and foolhardy.

What about Austin Vanfleet’s performance did you like?

His performance was solid, and a great continuation from from the first book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed many times while reading this book. I also remember shock at one point, like: "I should have seen that one coming! How did I miss that!"

Any additional comments?

Jesse Hudson is a lot of fun to read because the stories ring familiar of other adventure tales involving rescue, misfortune, and fun escapes, but Jesse adds this new layer of historical authenticity. For example, the names, places, foods and customs all feel legitimate. At the same time, Ammon feels like a lot of cocky, goofy young men that I know.

Slow down

Not a bad story narrator though spoke like he was late for a flight. Had to slow it down to make it sound correct. It was heavy on preachiness and introspection. Don’t think I’ll go to the next one.
