About this listen

The Promise: Living A Meaningful Life, is book five in the Living a Meaningful Life series. In order to best understand the storylines, backstories, and full context, it is recommended that you first listen to books one through four.

Living a Meaningful Life is a series for adults and teens of all ages. Each book examines the challenges involved in facing the harsh realities of life and rising above them despite setbacks, mistakes, losses, and other negative circumstances.

The series is neutral on religion and politics.

The Promise is an emotional, inspiring, and touching installment of the series, where the main character must once again make changes to his life in order to honor promises made. He realizes that sacrifices made to honor promises given can result in the greatest gifts that life has to offer.

The Promise will stir within you deep emotions and leave you contemplating your own life choices and possibilities. When we have the courage and discipline to do the right things for the right reasons, we are richly rewarded in ways that we cannot even imagine. There are plenty of tears in this one, but they are tears of joy. You will also enjoy an abundance of laughs, as you experience the banter between the characters we have come to know and love.

What promise carries our plot - a meaningful one!

Author Brian Hunter effectively allows his titles to steer the storyline. With each book housing just a few chapters, individually they contribute to a connecting storyline that ultimately guides the book’s title. Thus, as the title illudes to, readers enter this fifth in the series curious as to what draws our narrator forward, what promise carries our plot. Might it be the promise he made to finish college, the one he made to the kids on the farm, the high school students, or maybe even the promise of another family dinner to those we’ve previously encountered? Regardless of the many possibilities, it is the meaningfulness of it all that draws us in.

“The Promise” finds our main character returning to the west coast after having been pulled away for an extraordinary favor. Drawn back to his studies, his cramped apartment, and his ocean lifestyle, he’s compelled to fulfill the promise he made to Mr. Wilkens. Yet, as he settles back in it doesn’t feel quite right. As a fateful call once again compels him to return home, bigger responsibilities, promises, and meaning awaits him.

Keen to remain true to his word, our narrator embarks on his biggest endeavor yet as he finds his sense of family, seeks out his place of belonging, and continues to remain passionate about living a meaningful life. As “The Promise” progresses, Hunter has crafted a heartwarming new beginning as roots begin to take hold and our narrator finds his purpose. Staying true to the promises he’s made, Hunter’s fifth in the series is a moving exploration of home, sprinkled with family, romance, and renewal.

“The Promise” shows readers yet another example of living a meaningful life as our characters continue to progress in their maturation, responsibilities, and sense of belonging.
