Publisher's summary

In 1967, four female scientists worked together to build the world’s first time machine. But just as they are about to debut their creation, one of them suffers a breakdown, putting the whole project - and future of time travel - in jeopardy. To protect their invention, one member is exiled from the team - erasing her contributions from history.

Fifty years later, time travel is a big business. Twenty-something Ruby Rebello knows her beloved grandmother Granny Bee was one of the pioneers, though no one will tell her more. But when Bee receives a mysterious newspaper clipping from the future reporting the murder of an unidentified woman, Ruby becomes obsessed: could it be Bee? Who would want her dead? And most importantly of all: can her murder be stopped?

Traversing the decades and told from alternating perspectives, The Psychology of Time Travel introduces a fabulous new voice in fiction and a new must-listen for fans of speculative fiction and women’s fiction alike.

Confusing

Time travel stories are one of my favorite genres. i don’t know know if the fact that i was confused was me or the book. I suppose actually reading it would have made keeping track of the dates easier and possibly how everyone was related. It did however have a clever conclusion.

Time Travel, Love & Murder

Mascarenhas is quick to get the story started. Within the first three chapters you're attention has been captured. Time travel exists, a murder has been committed and love has many grey areas.

The descriptions provide such imagery that you can vividly place yourself at the scene. Not only was I able to picture the scene in precise detail, but at one point I could even smell the scene.

This past, present and future murder mystery is truly a poetic one. Though I was able to solve the mystery, I appreciated the clever twists and a debunked suspicion. In the end, everything comes together and nothing is left unanswered.

A New Favorite!

Where to start??? I love the absolute psychology of the book- delving into characters development and more. This book makes me think of parts work (see Internal Family Systems or your nearest up-to-date therapist). The women characters (which are the major the characters) are human AND strong. They have flaws, they love, they murder, they make up- they meet themselves…. Just go read it already! This is gratefully on my favorites list.

Brilliant

I was worried in the beginning that I wouldn’t able to keep up with all the back and forth and character builds but it came full circle and was just brilliant. I really enjoyed this read. Made you think and wonder what if we had invented time machines. Great listen.

Surprised by not being surprised

I am notorious for figuring out the killer in mystery books and movies, and this book was no different. No spoilers here but I knew from very early on who did it. The surprising part of the experience was how enjoyable it was and how many other surprises delighted me. Definitely recommend.

Mind bending!

A great mix of science fiction and mystery. I’m so glad I listened to it because the voices helped distinguish the characters.

Time travel is great if you're gay

Halfway through it occurred to me; I'm not sure there's a male character in the entire book. How fun!

Original

I was spellbound from start to finish. The story was masterfully mapped out, folding in on it's self over and over again, creating a completely unique take on the time travel genre. I loved it.
