About this listen

A rookie plays for keeps in this darkly seductive hockey romance from the USA Today-bestselling author of The Wrong Quarterback.

"You're going to fall in love with me. It's only a matter of time."

Trapped in a life she never wanted, Sloane is subject to the whims of rich, powerful men. She survives by playing the part, but inside she feels nothing. Because having feelings is dangerous. She's managed to stay numb for so long . . . until a rookie hockey player spots her and turns her whole world upside down.

When Logan York pulls Sloane into his arms after the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals, the crowd goes wild. But what's wilder is the way Sloane finds herself kissing him back. Logan's relentless pursuit has her feeling reckless and out of control, and she can't afford to be careless.

She refuses to date him, but Logan's not taking no for an answer. He needs Sloane to be his forever, and when he learns what kind of life she's been living he's determined to save her—even if it means hiring her for himself.

Sloane tells herself it's just another job, that Logan is just another client. But a client has never wanted her for anything more than her body before. And Logan will break every rule to get Sloane's heart in the game.

The storyline was great. The narrators amazing! I love when the epilog gives updates on not only the main characters but on the other characters we love just as much from the previous books!

Delicious

The plot started similar to the other books, but it was darker in a different way. I wasn't as empathetic for the FMC, Sloane, because you think she could’ve left anytime. However, you realize how young and manipulated she was, and she probably would've ended up doing what she did without the false illusion of control. The MMC, Logan, wasn't as unhinged as Walker or the other MMCs and never gave up. I liked Lincoln better as a side character, especially in this book, and I liked how all FMCs came together without judgment. The texts between the circle of trust was hilarious.

The Rookies book is finally here, and I'm so glad to dive back into The Pucking Wrong series. This is Logan & Sloane's book, and we get a new FMC with a different traumatic background. Get ready for the tattooed NHL Star Rookie and the Escort that starts out with a rival player.

Tropes:
🏒 Dark Hockey Romance
🎨 InstaLove, He Falls First & Hard
🏒 NHL Star & the Escort/S3x Worker
🎨 He Hires Her to Spend Time w/ Her
🏒 He Saves Her
🎨 Stalker(ish) Vibes & Red Flags 🚩🚩
🏒 Man Obsessed/Jealous/Protective
🎨 Traumatic Past FMC
🏒 Found Family

You'll still get all the funny parts with the Circle of Trust group chat & activities, Grandma Airlines, and new Geraldine team get togethers that may include a new statue in the middle of all the ones of her husband that is very accurate. Plus, a new drunken guys trip to the tattoo parlor for a new Peen 🍆 decoration. Plus, the tattoo artist conversation with Logan trying to get him to tell him it's a 🏳️‍🌈 thing b/w all of them. I laughed so many times in this book from just the people the Circle of Trust knows. Plus, the guys name the girls group, and I love their name! And the guys have shirts made for the girls with their group name.

The narrators in this book are the same 2 that are in all 'The Pucking Wrong' audiobooks, Troy Duran and Alexis Paige. I do enjoy listening to these two together, but maybe not for every book. Alexis Paige's voice could be used for any FMC because she can change her voice to fit so many roles.
It's just Troy Duran's voice that always sounds the same and doesn't fit every MMC. His voice is so deep and gruff and raspy. It naturally makes him sound older. I don't think his voice particularly sounds like a 21-35yr old male. It would be nice to hear a change every so often, but that's just my opinion.

This one was good! I did enjoy what I read, but this didn’t give me the same vibes that I was getting from the first few in the series, and I think that kinda killed my mood. Rookie is a little on the lighter side, and was wanting unhinged like LD and AL. 😂

I did really enjoy the audio! That was a lot of fun to listen to. 🙂‍↔️

This book was a a very dark story and frankly too dark for me.. Troy Duran is great as a narrator .

CR Jane with her OTT athletes never disappoint and The Rookie Logan doesn’t either! Great banter with the COT, the found family and bringing new characters into the fold. Already excited for the next stories to arrive! CR keeps her readers in the story til the end. Great narrators who truly bring the characters to life!

4⭐ Hot, Steamy, Angsty.... phewwwww I loved this story; only reason is is 4 and not 5 ⭐ is because it felt rushed. I feel that there was so much potential in the story line that could have really brought it to life and made it one of my all time favorites; however if did feel a bit rushed. I admire Sloane and her strength through dealing with her Uncles abuse. Of Course Logan and the "circle of trust" made sure all was okay though the most manic and insane ways.

I absolutely loved Logan!! He was probably the least unhinged of the Pucking Wrong men but was the easiest to love!! This was another amazing book in the series!
Alexis Paige - you beautiful human, you NAILED this!!!

Amazing duet narration

The story itself, at face value, is my least favorite of the series. For a chunk of the book it felt like the underlying plot was lost. Like it was mostly focused on the spinoffs coming next.

However, Alexis Paige’s performance had me pining to hear more of her delivery of Sloane Calloway. She had me laughing, cheering, crying, and I found myself having emotional responses to the characters as a result, which just has not happened in the prior installations of the series.

Logan comes off as the least unhinged of the bunch—more like a tattooed golden retriever. I didn’t dislike Logan, but his story really isn’t unique. He felt more like an appetizer for what I assume will be Asher’s story in spinoff series.

Troy Duran’s delivery of creepy Uncle Everett was fantastic, which only pushed his iteration of Logan further into the shadow for me.

It’s a good audiobook, which I suspect is the only format in which I could have truly enjoyed it.
