Publisher's summary

Mysterious. Dark. Deadly. They say crows are bad omens, but until I met them, a single crow was my only friend.

Then, the boys next door come to welcome me to the neighborhood:

  • Maddox, the mysterious, tattooed, six-foot-four wall of muscle who glares at me like I’m the enemy, but protects me like I'm a treasure.
  • Lennox, the devastatingly gorgeous flirt who charms me with his criminal smiles and melts me with his gentle kisses while hiding a sinister secret.

They’re twin brothers, each one more dangerous than the other, each more irresistible. Loyal only to their crew, the Murder of Crows, they refuse to let an outsider like me get too close.

That is, until they find out the abuse I suffer at home.

They take me in, but I soon realize these men are no saviors. They’re ruthless kings in a community governed by gang law, where depravity reigns and favors are repaid in blood.

I should have seen the omen and run, but now it’s too late.

I’m in their debt.

The Crows own me now—body and soul.

The two kings want to play with their pretty, broken toy, but they don't want to share.

One of them wants to trap me. The other wants to punish me.

But which one gets to keep me?

The Rain King is a m/f dark romance meant for 18+ listener who have *no triggers.* It is a complete standalone within a series.

What the heck did I just read

Okay so I'm a dark romance girly, Give Zade Meadows, Enzo Vitale, Ryatt Archer, etc. any day but this was a whole different level of I don't know what. Its the kind of book that is a so much a train wreck but you just cant stop reading. It also makes you question why the hell you are reading. It definitely left me feeling weird. I don't know if I loved it or hated it. However the voice actors were superb. I guess I'm very much like Rae through most of this book and I'm lost and don't know how to feel. But also contemplating picking up book two. That's it I think I'm a masochist.

So different from what I normally gravitate to

Spoilers -

I think the last time I read a romance novel where the hero rapes the female it was a historical romance released in the 70s or 80s...(notice I said released? not trying to completely give away my age...lol) In this book the hero Maddox brutally rapes Rae the night before she's to marry his brother Lennox - we are talking full on clothes tearing, neck squeezing, hard and fast bloody penetration - so definitely no dubious consent. But it was okay because she "loves him". Overall this was interesting and unique to me and I most certainly won't soon forget it. As for triggers, I was more slightly triggered by Maddox having sex with Scarlett in front of Rae then I was by the rape scene - I hate when the hero "cheats" although technically it wasn't cheating since he and Rae weren't technically together - but I hate witnessing that crap on screen. The voice talents of Amanda and Gregory was top notch! I just wish there were more chapters performed by Gregory! I don't have regrets trying this title by Selena - I have to admit I couldn't stop listening - but I know I most likely won't be checking out her other works. The next book in the series features both the horrible Scarlett and Lennox...I don't know if I will ever have the interest.

3 starz - I won't listen again

childish selfish

The incessant indecision became tiresome. Reflects the fmc in an unsympathetic light. if this is meant to be a series, I'm out.

Great Story!

If you like Dark romance this is the book for you. I will say I didn’t like the female narrator’s interpretation of Maddox, it was annoying but that’s really the only con. Waiting for book 2.

This story is good

After reading and listening to this book is ok but really kind of gets on my nerves because she goes back and forth between the two twins and even though they treat her like garbage she like still likes them but it's kind of like it's kind of like apple and Royal. Apple likes World but he's dysfunctional and that makes you want to tune in, even more, to figure out what's going to go and what's going to happen Remy she needs to figure out what she wants I like Lex but he's crazy just like Duke and I don't like Maddox because he's like Baron he was crazy but overall it's cigarette book if you like dark and you don't like the traditional romance books where they all fall in love and they say will they won't they will they won't they enjoyed it.

Just ok

It's not a terrible story. But there are a lot of rapie things that happen. And abuse! Also, it gets a little weird at the end. The narrators are good, though.

Incredible Story

Nobody writes a dark romance quite like Selena, and this one definitely delivers. It's all of the gritty goodness we love, and shows no mercy
