About this listen

It's December, and the Shannon family are returning home to their clifftop mansion near Kinloch for their annual AGM. Shannon International is one of the world's biggest private companies, with tendrils reaching around the globe in computing, banking and mineral resourcing, and it has brought untold wealth and privilege to the family. However, a century ago Archibald Shannon stole the land upon which he built their home, and his descendants have been cursed ever since.

When heavy snow cuts off Kintyre, DCI Jim Daley and DS Brian Scott are assigned to protect their illustrious visitors. As an ancient society emerges from the blizzards, and its creation, the Rat Stone, reveals grisly secrets, ghosts of the past come to haunt the Shannons. As the curse decrees, death is coming. But for whom, and from what?

Great series. Love the characters as well as the storyline. Will continue to listen to this series.

Excellent

Narrator is brilliant as always but the series is sinking. Characters are all over the place, there’s little to no real detecting, unbelievable coincidences abound and too much fantastical elements for belief.

Ridiculous soap opera

I like the series, but this entry was too bizarrely convoluted, characters shift and behave unbelievably, and there were too many story lines that all came together in an improbable mess.

Too many improbable story lines

Daley and Scott are fast becoming my best friends. Gripping storylines and lovable characters make this series a must-listen.

Engaging and a fun listen

Not believable- same old tropes. The connections are tenuous. Sometimes repeats descriptors in the same paragraph- maybe get a better editor.

So the plot of this book becomes more and more preposterous as it progresses. Nevertheless the writing is so well done that you can't help but be interested to find out how it all ends. But the real saving grace is the narrator who is absolutely mesmerizing. Maybe it's just being stuck in the house under quarantine that is allowing me to be generous given the crazy twists and turns this story took. This is in no way a police procedural It is much more of a thriller with some absolutely unbelievable situations occurring. If you want a good listen and are willing to suspend your disbelief it's a fun ride with characters you've grown to know and love.

Preposterous plot but still somehow engaging

I gave it up, Awww! Save me from middle aged men. The promise of the first book has NOT come to fruition. I risked this book after the last but no...I fast forwarded to the end (which I never do!) but more of the same boorish drivel even the ending where maybe the skank has an accident and hopefully perishes is not worth the risk!

I struggled thru a few chapters but ...

I've downloaded a SLEW of episodes (OK - maybe three) in this smart, well-written series (which I love) in the hope that one of 'em will have been recorded with sufficient volume that I don't have to listen to it in a flippin' cloister or deprivation tank to actually hear it.
C'mon, Audible: I'm blowin' credits here and could use some help: this series deserves WAY better than this production hell hole.

MAJOR volume, production problems

I really like the series but this title is way too long. I suggest
buying this when you've been through the others. If you Like 20
foot snow drifts, slow speed vehicle chases, lots and lots of family with hangers on, more snow and very lucky police this your book. Both ghostly and
nonghostly interventions included.
