Publisher's summary

What would you do to survive the apocalypse?

Jack Gee, hiking the New Zealand mountains, is blissfully unaware of the Hemorrhage virus sweeping the world. A desperate message from his wife, Dee, alerts him, and he must return to Hamilton. On the way, he is captured by flesh-eating Variants and taken to their meat locker. To escape, he will need to draw on all his experience as an outdoorsman, but first, he must find the will to survive.

Surrounded by Variants, Dee is trapped in her Hamilton basement with a group of survivors. With Jack missing, and dwindling food supplies, she must leave the basement, her only defense a katana.

The nightmare has just begun. Will they find each other in the chaos?

eh so so

story had potential. weak characters in my opinion. not a whole lot of depth outside of Dee's meaningful eyes and just-so-happened-to-be-there heroism of Jack. a lot of failing redeemed by luck.

Very Impressive!

As a huge fan of the Extinction Cycle series, I had high expectations for this series...and Adrian did not disappoint!! I loved this book! I often listen to audio books during my commute. I found myself driving around after work with no other intention, but to listen to this book. My heart was pounding right along with Jack, Dee, Ben, Boss, and little George. Intense and action packed from beginning to end. I'm so looking forward to book two and other writings by this author. Thank you and keep them coming!

Another great addition to the series

I'm glad another story arc was added to the extinction cycle. It started a little slow, but got better, in which is always good for me since I listen while I work. Now I'm off to book 2

A very nice addition to the series

Having been a fan of Nicolas Sansbury Smith for a long time to include the extinction series, I wasn’t sure how a stranger could add to it. I was very pleasantly surprised. Very good story and truly in keeping with the series.
I just someone with come out with a sketch of the variants.

Gut wrenching and intense.

The narration is amateur but is doesn’t take away from the story. So many intense moments from the start. You’re thrown into adrenaline in the first chapters already caring for the lead characters, even the sub-characters. Impressive spin off from the originals. Job well done.

Meh

It's not the worst thing I have ever listened to but certainly not the best. Kind of a snowflake survivalist. And stop with the sappy lovie dovie stuff. We get it already. Jack loves See and she loves he.... smh

not too bad

The story is like any other apocalyptic kind of story, but I didn't mind that. it was good enough to keep me interested but some aspect of the story really agitated me. some things just didn't makes sense but it's a zombie/lizard/vampire story, so eh what do you expect.

Good

I loved the Aussie accent at first, then it became tiring. Liked other books in this series, but I drifted listening to this one. So it may just be me. Good zombie story.

Great Job AJ

I wasn't sure to expect from the NZ version but have found every book of the Extinction Cycle series as one of those type of stories thst you can't wait to listen to once you have to come back to the real world where the only zombies are the ones who mindless are addicted to social media via cellphones. But if this is AJ's first shot at the XC series, I'm certainly ready for more! Oh, and AJ if I ever get to NZ after this damn COVID is over, I'm taking you up on the hiking invite bro!! I hope you can handle my kids!! lol!
