About this listen
Do you ever wonder why it is you sometimes see a single shoe on the side of the road? What happens if you don’t hold your breath when you pass a cemetery? Why should you pay careful attention to that strange speed limit sign, the one that reads 67 MPH?
When an amateur journalist encounters a mysterious radio program while driving alone one late night, he is presented with a set of instructions with potentially fatal consequences. After escaping with his life, obsession takes hold and he is determined to find out who is behind the broadcast and who else it has affected. His investigation leads him to speak with travelers and truckers, vagabonds and vacationers, models and rock stars, each with their own sinister encounter with the strange program. His search draws him into a world of deadly discovery from which there is no turning back.
So settle down and buckle up. Stay alert for the signs to survive. Do not adjust that dial. Prepare to be a lucky—or unlucky—listener to The Rules of the Road. What will the static settle on for you?
Narrated by a full cast, the audiobook version of this novel will immerse you into its unsettling world.

Jeremy works at the Video Hut in Nevada, Iowa. It's a small town in the center of the state - the first a in Nevada pronounced ay. This is the late 1990s, and even if the Hollywood Video in Ames poses an existential threat to Video Hut, there are still regular customers, a rush in the late afternoon. It's good enough for Jeremy: It's a job, quiet and predictable, and it gets him out of the house, where he lives with his dad and where they both try to avoid missing Mom, who died six years ago in a car wreck.

It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.

It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

FOLLOW THE RULES!!
This was such a fun book to listen to! All those times as a kid on highways and seeing things like a single shoe on the side of the road always triggered my imagination. Lol, but it was never anything as terrifying as what's in this book! A great listen, narration was amazing!!

Did the book justice
I recently finished reading the eBook version of The Rules of the Road and was instantly taken in by the immersive storytelling. Each story has its own unique flavor but is still tied together into the same cohesive story with the help of Buck Hensley.
The narrators did a great job of portraying each section and I really loved the portrayal of Buck. Rafael Marmol also plays a great asshole... I mean, he is playing one... right? right??? I was worried that it might be too jarring having each story be a different narrator and that the differences in sound might take you out of the story. That was definitely not the case, though. Everything was very well edited and of high quality.
So this is definitely a great way to take in the story, but you have to ask yourself... once you hear the rules spoken by Buck you have to follow them, don't you?
Well done, everybody!

One Hell Of A Ride
I've been a fan of horror and especially horror narrations for a long time. While I can't outright say I've come across any I truly dislike, it takes a special story to leave a true impact on me. The kind I find myself thinking about in the dead of the night, wondering what I'd do in those characters' shoes. This is such a story. I'd been following it before and I can say this is definitely worth a purchase with a narration cast that's easy on the ears and a story that reels you in. Once you begin, all I can say is buckle up because you're in for one hell of a ride.

Well worth the time and Credit
I enjoyed this very much. My only *nitpicks* is that some of the acting / reading was kind of wooden and lacking in emotion. But being that no one read alone for very long made it tolerable, and that apparently some people are not very familiar with how to pronounce the names of towns or locations, (the worst two offenses being "Des Moines" (pronouncing both the "S"s which are silent) and Mount Sinai (pronounced "Sigh-knee-I" in ROTR rather than "Sigh-nigh") from the Bible. (This one being particularly grievous, because the character is supposed to be "Well churched" and the reader is clearly not.)
I know I'm being picky but these were actually really jarring. Otherwise the book is fun and the recording is enjoyable.

Immersive Audiobook That All Ties Together
This was a fantastic audiobook with a really immersive feel to it, especially as I listened to it while driving. Big urban legend vibes with rituals we all follow while traveling.
It's read by a full cast and like another reviewer mentioned there is a sort of podcast feel to it. The performance of Buck Hensley is worth the price of admission! The main narrator has a nice crisp voice.
Since it does use a full cast with each chapter narrated by a different actor, it's possible that some listeners might not like each and every one. Some were definitely better than others. However, I found that it gave it a more authentic feel, like these were real people that had experienced the cursed broadcast known as The Rules of the Road.
I also didn't hear any mistakes or repeated lines. Maybe a mispronunciation here or there, but that was it.
Strongly recommend this book!

For Your Own Sake, Follow the Rules of the Road.
Howdy folks, I'm not Buck Hensley, and these are not "The Rules of Road." However, this is undoubtedly a review for the gleefully fun and horrifying, The Rules of the Road by C.B. Jones. If I could broadcast this review into the airwaves, I certainly would.
This collection/anthology of tales centers around a mysterious radio broadcast from the aforementioned Buck Hensley. Although, it doesn't always have to be a radio broadcast. It can be through a CD player, a cell phone, or whatever other means of communication is available. Upon hearing this broadcast, the folksy, butter-voiced, and poetic Buck Hensley provides the unfortunate (sometimes fortunate) protagonists with a set of rules to follow while on the road. God forbid you don't follow Buck's rules. The consequences can be worse than death. And to that I say...fair enough.
C.B. Jones writes a super impressive and incredibly entertaining set of stories centered around the concept of these mysterious radio broadcasts. More so, these stories capture and convey the gritty atmosphere of traveling through America's heartland, and the isolation one feels while traveling on the road. The mystery, intrigue, and circumstances in each tale held my interest throughout and made me want to continue reading the book from cover to finish. The characters in each account were well-written to the point where I was fully invested in their stories and wanted to continue following their path even after the conclusion of their stories.
Having read this book and then listening to the audiobook version, I would recommend giving the audiobook a shot as the full-cast performances were excellent. Each narrator brought their character to life in a wonderful and believable way. It certainly brings a different angle to the novel hearing it read with different voices.
Allow me to misquote the eternally memorable words of Buck Hensley, "Stay alert. Stay lively. Stay lonely. Once again, this is my review for The Rules of the Road by C.B. Jones, and this book is a must-buy."

Good Fun… a little too over the top.
A very light listen (read). Has a number of gems, but overall the stores are a bit silly. The narrator is good, but the main antagonist, is too comical, like a tired SNL skit. That said, it was fun.

Stay alert. Stay lively. Stay lonely.
Travelling alone in the middle of the night and listening to music might make you the unlucky recipient of a radio broadcast named The Rules of the Road with Buck Hensley. Buck will give you a rule to follow and a warning of what might happen if you choose not to comply. He might have you put a sock in a lone shoe on the side of the highway or suffer dying the next time you cross a bridge, you might be instructed to listen to the entirety of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven or never be able to finish anything ever again. Some doomed listeners aren’t alone and raises the stakes as EVERYONE who is told the rules, has to follow them.
One unlucky victim of The Rules of the Road becomes a bit obsessed with this phenomenon so sets up a website looking for others who found themselves listening to Buck Hensley and their own particular circumstances hoping to find out who or what Buck is.
Told in interview style, you find our narrator slowly becoming unhinged and his life falling apart after each chapter. The interviews slowly become longer and more detailed. This book will leave you feeling paranoid and superstitious. Best to follow the rules just in case.
An astounding book from a self published unknown author. I’m excited to see what happens as they grow and what they come up with next.

Fairly enjoyable
Narration mostly decent. (Ch. 9 TOTAL CRINGE). Throughout, a little preachy at parts, even though I agree with the politics 100%. Overall, a decent entertaining listen. A few of them were exceptional stories, even if the narration was lacking.
