Publisher's summary

In a land torn apart by conflict, can love mend the tattered pieces?

As 1754 is drawing to a close, tensions between the French and the British on Canada’s Acadian shore are reaching a fever pitch. Seamstress Sylvie Galant and her family—French-speaking Acadians wishing to remain neutral—are caught in the middle, their land positioned between two forts flying rival flags. Amid preparations for the celebration of Noël, the talk is of unrest, coming war, and William Blackburn, the British Army Ranger raising havoc across North America’s borderlands.

As summer takes hold in 1755 and British ships appear on the horizon, Sylvie encounters Blackburn, who warns her of the coming invasion. Rather than participate in the forced removal of the Acadians from their land, he resigns his commission. But that cannot save Sylvie or her kin.

Relocated on a ramshackle ship to Virginia, Sylvie struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. When her path crosses once more with William’s, they must work through the complex tangle of their shared, shattered past to navigate the present and forge an enduring future.

Interesting, clean romance about the displaced Acadians

Good story. Interesting time period and circumstance. The narrator paused at odd times and read too slowly. Not my favorite.

A love of three strands

I loved everything about this book. Especially the way she weaves our Lord’s hand through the lives of the characters. Laura Frantz teaches with her story telling and in doing so leads us closer to God. Truly amazing.

Love it!

Laura Frantz is an auto buy author for me. I love her books. Their are lush and complex in plot and her characters are memorable and well written. She is dedicated to historical detail which is important to me in historical fiction.

The Seamstress of Arcadie is beautifully written and was set during a time in history I didn’t know a lot about except for Longfellow’s poem. I didn’t want it to end. Another excellent book by this author!

The audio book narration was excellent as well.

Excellent history lesson

Loved the beautiful writing style, history of Acadia, Williamsburg and the sad but true story of the Acadians.

Captivating

Very raw and honest- showing both sides and what live can do to bridge a gap.

Really enjoyed this history!

Enjoyed learning a bit piece of history I had not known about the North American Wars and different peoples. Also enjoyed the storyline, felt it ended too quickly.

Stoled My Heart ♥️

Another EXCELLENT book from Laura Frantz!!! It was hard to come to the end of this book and I look forward to another Arcadian story to follow this one. There is something extraordinary about Laura Frantz books that make her my one of my Favorite authors. Pilar Witherspoon is also one of my favorite narrators. Combining Pilar Witherspoon’s narration with a book written by Laura Frantz creates a spectacular experience. Thank You! 😊

Wonderful story!

I wasn’t familiar with this author, but I’m so glad I took a chance on this book! The plot and pacing were exciting, the characters endearing, and the sense of place nearly palpable.

The reader, unfortunately, drove me bonkers, for a number of reasons. Mostly, I couldn’t stand the long pauses she gave EVERY SINGLE TIME she said certain French terms. Worst was the character of Bleu, whom she always reads like: “She turned to…BLEU…and said hello.” It’s like, can’t you just use the name in a sentence without pausing before and after and going so overboard with the pronunciation? Maddening!

Anyway, the book was so good it was worth enduring the reader. I will definitely look for this wonderful author again—I just hope it’ll be a different reader next time.

Slow start and then great

I’ve always enjoyed both this author and the narrator, but had to speed it up on occasion. There was a nice, unpredictable, but steady cadence that made for an enjoyable read!
