About this listen
In a land torn apart by conflict, can love mend the tattered pieces?
As 1754 is drawing to a close, tensions between the French and the British on Canada’s Acadian shore are reaching a fever pitch. Seamstress Sylvie Galant and her family—French-speaking Acadians wishing to remain neutral—are caught in the middle, their land positioned between two forts flying rival flags. Amid preparations for the celebration of Noël, the talk is of unrest, coming war, and William Blackburn, the British Army Ranger raising havoc across North America’s borderlands.
As summer takes hold in 1755 and British ships appear on the horizon, Sylvie encounters Blackburn, who warns her of the coming invasion. Rather than participate in the forced removal of the Acadians from their land, he resigns his commission. But that cannot save Sylvie or her kin.
Relocated on a ramshackle ship to Virginia, Sylvie struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. When her path crosses once more with William’s, they must work through the complex tangle of their shared, shattered past to navigate the present and forge an enduring future.

New York, 1898. The only thing more shocking than Arthur Stanhope III’s unexpected death is the revelation that his will bestows his company—and most of the vast fortune that goes with it—to the nearest male heir, leaving his mother, wife, and daughter nearly impoverished. His widow, Sylvia, quickly realizes she must set aside her grief to ensure their daughter, Adelaide, is launched into society as soon as the appropriate mourning period passes.

Story
At birth, Violet and Rose Flowers were identical, save for a tiny bluish-purple mark gracing Violet’s slender neck. By nineteen, their temperaments distinguish them, as different as the flowers their mother named them for—Violet, wild and outgoing, and Rose, solitary and reserved. Still, they are each other’s world. Then, on a sweltering, terrible August night in 1928, an explosion rocks Lamb’s Dance Hall in Possum Flats, Missouri, engulfing it in flames, leaving one twin among the dozens dead, and her sister’s life forever changed.

It's why I like to hibernate away in my cave - I mean housekeeping a healthy distance from the holly jolly spirits. Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Love it!
Laura Frantz is an auto buy author for me. I love her books. Their are lush and complex in plot and her characters are memorable and well written. She is dedicated to historical detail which is important to me in historical fiction.
The Seamstress of Arcadie is beautifully written and was set during a time in history I didn’t know a lot about except for Longfellow’s poem. I didn’t want it to end. Another excellent book by this author!

Wonderful story!
I wasn’t familiar with this author, but I’m so glad I took a chance on this book! The plot and pacing were exciting, the characters endearing, and the sense of place nearly palpable.
The reader, unfortunately, drove me bonkers, for a number of reasons. Mostly, I couldn’t stand the long pauses she gave EVERY SINGLE TIME she said certain French terms. Worst was the character of Bleu, whom she always reads like: “She turned to…BLEU…and said hello.” It’s like, can’t you just use the name in a sentence without pausing before and after and going so overboard with the pronunciation? Maddening!
Anyway, the book was so good it was worth enduring the reader. I will definitely look for this wonderful author again—I just hope it’ll be a different reader next time.

Well Written and Grief Ridden
As usual, Franze’s writing and characters are great. This is one of her books that tries to chronicle the level of suffering endured by a group of people at a time in history. Little relief. I will not listen to this one again.
