Publisher's summary

Simon Peter, Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Jude, Simon, Judas, and Matthias - what happened to the men who answered Jesus' call to follow him? What impact did they have on the world? Where did they go and what did they do after Jesus' resurrection and ascension? In these fascinating profiles, Dr. McBirnie offers listeners a snapshot of the lives of each apostle. His information was compiled by traveling to places where the apostles lived and visited, by studying the Scriptures and biblical history, by listening to local traditions, and by engaging in his own original research. Picking up where the book of Acts leaves off, McBirnie brings these men to life as he explores the legends, traditions, and real lives of the Twelve as they built the foundation of Christianity.

Impressive work

Amazing book, not only for Christians, but for anyone interested in how Christianity was preached and expanding, NOT a religion of war, but of love.

Great Overview of The Apostles and Others

This was an enjoyable listen. I certainly learned more than I knew before about many of the figures detailed, and I recommend anyone interested in some of the facts and legends surrounding the disciples and other later followers of Jesus to give this book a listen. The narration was great and never felt tedious, considering all the details that the author went over.

Thought-provoking

This work creates a foundation that other biblical studies can build upon. Just the understanding of how the Romans played such a role in creating trade routes and travel from Asia all the way to Spain and even Britain.

Not written by a Catholic author

I give the author great credit for having done extensive research for writing this book, but I figured wrong when I tried to find out if he was Catholic. He obviously does not believe that St Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic Church. If I had known, I would have hesitated to buy this audiobook. Ive only gotten so far as half way of him writing about St Peter so I can’t really comment about the whole book, but I’m sure it should be interesting to learn more on the other Apostles. You just have to be aware that the author is seeing the Apostles with Protestant eyes…

Disappointed

This was supposed to be about the 12 apostles. It was mostly about paul who many do not even see as an apostle. Paul self proclaimed himself an apostle after his vision. I wanted to know about the original 12. After you get through the first hour of the author talking about himself, the rest is Paul, Paul, Paul

LEGENDS

This is a book of legends. While there is little true information on the Apostles, the work is pumped with legends and rumors.
