This is a good listen. I tend to be a bit lenient with short stories because it’s so hard to get a good solid story with good characters into a tight window. I really probably should have dropped a star on it because it did introduce two stories, but only completed one, but the one that was brought to a close was well written and read. The characters were very interesting. The twist was really good and logical although a little bit of a stretch that Shaw could figure out with the limited clues.

Story is decent

Shaw is a good character and his cases are interesting. So far, Deaver has created some very good short stories. However, in this book, Shaw's search for a runaway is sidetracked by a hostage situation. This story is quite good, and resolves nicely in under an hour. Nevertheless, I am not going to give 5 stars because the original case remains open. Yes, the title is about the secondary development, but the runaway's case is left hanging, as if Deaver thinks that Shaw or we should not care about it any more.

KG's narration is really good on the character voices.

Unfinished

This was a nice short story but I leave it wanting more . However I do find it somewhat strange how quickly the sheriff went from not trusting Shaw to giving him complete trust. But Hey if you guys want a quick story this is a good one .

Good listen

Though a short story it kept me interested. After finding out about this author I have tried to find more of his books. This is my first book by this author. His descriptions are good that I can see what he’s talking about. The narrator doesn’t just read but adds emphasis to the story & characters.

The narrator & the story

love these small little bits in the life of Shaw, and how the characters overlap with other Deaver novels.

Great Short Story

I did nit like paying full price for one short story. It is good story and good performance but I would not have bought it if I had known it was only 56 min.

Just saying , that you will pay for less then 1hour of listening, it is very short story for full price of the full book.
