I found this book to be incredibly insightful, empowering, and illuminating. This is a well-structured book covering each of the elements in the dark triad: Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy. Each chapter describes the tendencies and behavior for each of these personality types. There are insights and resources shared to help an individual discern whether they are interacting with either of these three personality types.
The rest of the book shares on the topics of Manipulation, Deception, Gas Lighting, and Love-Bombing, and expands upon the ways for determining whether any of their given mechanisms are taking place. Definitions and key characteristics for each of these behaviors are too shared.
Lastly, the section on How to Protect Yourself and the 7 Rules of Influence and Power are an empowering way for the reader to protect themselves from such mentally and emotionally damaging behaviors, and provides the framework for seven rules an individual may set in place to increase their levels of influence and power that can only lead to a more balanced and empowering way of living out their life.
A Must Read!

The advice for coping in relationships with these personality types is in line with what I've learned from others in the psychiatric field.
Students, writers, or people trying to deal with a manipulative relationship will benefit from this content.
It's presented in a format that is easy to follow. Cues are included for taking notes.
I enjoyed listening and learning more about dark psychology.

While I found the first couple chapters interesting on the dark triad characteristics. The most helpful chapters for me were in the middle. I found the chapters on manipulation, deception, gaslighting, and love-bombing very enlightening. There were many interesting things that I think are very helpful for people to be aware of especially when starting a relationship.
A cool book to check out especially if you’ve been struggling with being manipulated or deceived by individuals in the past.

As far as the contents of book, this was truly an interesting read. I haven't been exposed to many aspects of psychology outside some reading of layman articles and media, but Ronald Gill does a great job explaining the focus of psychology he's talking about before going into more specific topics. His delve into manipulation and its different forms as well as the minds of the people who use these tactics really laid bare the things that a person would need to watch out for.
The first part of his book sets the stage and explains what dark psychology is as well as the three defined dark psychology users being narcissists, Machiavellians, and psychopaths. I found this section interesting but the book didn't become more eye-opening until the second half. This is when Gill discusses the different types of manipulation (such as gas lighting and love bombing). He shows how these different forms of manipulation manifest, how to watch for them, and how to prevent them.
I think this is an excellent book for people who are currently in a relationship with an abuser that uses manipulation. Hearing some of these different shapes of manipulation showed me that I actually have been on the receiving end more than a few times. I think I knew it was manipulation but never quite knew how to place it. Gill's work also was a good insight as to how I might better approach things with relationships in my life. Partially because after listening to his book, I realize that I am probably more susceptible to manipulation than others but also how to be cognizant as to whether I'm unwittingly manipulating someone (even if if it really low key) and maybe how I might try to go about it in a different way that can be respectful for both parties.
I think if there was any negative point is I felt that Gill doesn't provide as many examples as he could and many of the examples he does provide sound like common sense to me. I will admit this might be because I'm too used to utterly convoluted manipulation schemes shown in things like Hollywood or TV. In real life, these mundane examples of manipulation might be highly effective and in the situation, a person could be really open to the idea of suggestion because of already established context.
All in all, I think this was a great listen and would recommend anyone interested in psychology to give it a go. Or anyone who feels like they might be in a situation or have been in a situation where they have been victims of dark psychology or manipulation in general.
A great read on manipulation and how to prevent it

This book exceeded my expectations. I expected a definition/intro into dark psychology, which it does give, but it goes far beyond that. It breaks down the dark triad personality traits, explaining not only what they are, but also what they aren’t. This corrected misconceptions that I’ve had for years.
The chapter on how to protect yourself is so so important. It should be required reading before getting into any new relationship, whether romantic, work-related, or even friendship.
Great writing; great information. Put it on your TBR list.
