Publisher's summary

It's the start of summer vacation, and poor Tony has just lost his grandfather. His father is deployed overseas, and his mother is raising him and his little brother all alone. But that's not what's bothering Tony. It's that his nana will be all alone in her small, rural home during the heat of summer, doing the yard work, the laundry, and all the things around the house, while mourning her husband. That won't sit for Tony. With his mother's permission he moves in with Nana for the summer. He rides his bike along the country roads, up and down the hills near Auburn Lake Preparatory Academy, trying to meet a nice girl, and making sure his nana is taken care of. And when the dead rise, and the flesh is consumed, and the living go a little bit mad. Poor little Tony will have to take care of Nana in a wholly different way.

It's hard to go wrong with Philbrook and Foster

Be warned this one does not have a lot of action and is darker than his norm.

Poor hungry Nana....

THE SHED
Chris Philbrook is at his copious best with this short story, from describing the drops of puss plopping on the kitchen floor to Nana's dentures flinging from her mouth. Having a warped sense of humor, I found this story kinda funny in a gory, zombie apoc sort of way.

It's a great addition to the other 3 trips into the AUD world. If you are a fan of the AUD series, get this book. If you haven't you probably want to wait until you've passed the vignette in the series. It was cool to visit the ALPA neighborhood. As usual JAF does an excellent job narratoing, to me he IS Adrian. I think I'm going to go listen to the series again ♡

THE VAMP OF MENLOW PARK
This short is on another collection of short stories, AT LEAST HIS HEAD ISN'T ON FIRE, and was a standout story. I think it could become a whole book if Chris ever wanted to get into writting vampire books.

Very Dark

**disclosure I was given a review copy of this audiobook thete may be mild spoilers ahead**

This was a fairly short story set in the AUD universe. It tells the story behind one of the oddest scenes from the main series where Adrian comes across a shed on his house clearing and finds a horrible scene inside.

Be warned this is a very dark story. While AUD has always been a zombie horror series, at its heart there has always been a light hearted sense of humor woven in and above all a sense of hope. The Shed is not that kind of story.

The Shed is dark from the beginning dealing with themes of loss right from the start. First with the loss of a family member then the loss of a loved one's cognitive abilities and finally with a complete loss of hope.

The story itself is very well done. Even though anyone that has read the main series knows exactly what's about to happen to this family the author is still able to expertly increase the undertones of dread as we get closer and closer to the inevitable climax.

While it lacks the hope of the main series I feel it's still faithful to the story. Not everyone can be Adrian Ring and darkness and despair would have been the story for far too many people after "that day". I would highly recommend it fir anyone that doesn't mind a little darkness and hopelessness in their reading.

The only other thing to note is this is an extremely short book. You will be through it in a couple hours. It is recommended for audible members to simply buy this title outright and save their credit for more expensive audiobooks from the series or from the audible library in general.

Didn't know I wanted to know

Chris Phillbrook has this amazing ability to write stories about things from his other books that I didn't even know I was curious about. These tales books are such a great way to help keep you in the worlds he has created.

The Shed was a disaster story for the characters.

I am a fan of Adrians Undead Diary. I am also an animal lover. This was kind of a hard story for me. Grandma should have been put out of her misery. I dont know if she would have approved of her animals endings. I did not even think about the teeth which I should have. Antonio should have been smarter. However. the story is believable tbat these events could happen during an apocalypse. There is also a bonus vampire short story not related to AUD.

Great addition to the AUD world

My only complaint... it was too short. The character development was great. Okay, I have another complaint... now I want to go back and re-listen to the portion where Adrian found the shed and I wish that there was some note somewhere about where that arc in his story was. Definitely enjoyed this little side jaunt into the AUD world.

Loved this story!

A great story filling in the gaps of what Adrian found one day. Nice to know the full, messed up story as only Chris Philbrook could tell it! Whether you’ve read the whole series or not fans of horror will love this tale.

Great addition to Adrian's world.

Always a pleasure listening to James Foster read, and especially when it's a Chris Philbrook book!

This short story, set in the world of Adrian's Undead Diary, is touching, gruesome and full of the in depth characters Mr. Philbrook always provides with his zombie stories.

Definitely a book you'll want to add to your library.
