About this listen
"I very much need to be dead."
These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for - but took his own life. In the aftermath, his widow, Jane Hawk, does what all her grief, fear, and fury demand: find the truth, no matter what.
People of talent and accomplishment, people admired and happy and sound of mind, have been committing suicide in surprising numbers. When Jane seeks to learn why, she becomes the most-wanted fugitive in America. Her powerful enemies are protecting a secret so important - so terrifying - that they will exterminate anyone in their way.
But all their power and viciousness may not be enough to stop a woman as clever as they are cold-blooded, as relentless as they are ruthless - and who is driven by a righteous rage they can never comprehend. Because it is born of love.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Not an other series without end!
I thought this was going to be a self contained story. It continues unfortunately. I was hoping for a series of police procedurals where each book covers a particular case.
The story is ok not Koontz's best. A lot of cliche. The narrator was good. If there is only one more book to finish this story line I'll listen otherwise I'll leave well enough alone.

start here......
I stumble first on book 3 and now went back to the begging so I could read the story unfold in the correct sequence. A great novel of a dystopian world well told. More of a straight forward piece of fiction from Koontz but an enjoyable read.

Voice without energy
The reader sounds tired, dispirited without any energy, not as I imagine Jane Hawk. some more words required

Wowed once more
I have always loved Dean Koontz writing, edgy, thrilling and sometimes with that 'kapow' moral edge. This one was another wow and like some of the other audible books I have of his I keep returning and listening to them again!

5 book long series
Start this only if you are ready for a 5 book marathon. None of the books has any conclusion so if you are like me, you have to get all 5 in order to find out what happens. I love Dean Koontz and have just started book 4. This series could have been a book or 2 shorter, but I am enjoying it so far. You could probably skip a few books in the middle and still be able to follow the story. The narration is excellent!

Great start with a mediocre finish
Quite an anti climax for such and intriguing start. Hoped for a stronger finish and slightly more resistance from the bad guys. I seemed all so easy at the end

Anti-climactic ending, repetitive throughout
without spoilers, the ending of the book hinges on a coincidence that weakens the story, and seems to serve only as a mouthpiece for some out of place political posturing.
