About this listen

Tristan MacAlistair hides behind a façade of well-bred manners and charm yet, hidden beneath the surface, lie treacherous secrets he will go to extremes to protect. However, he meets his match in Lady Victoria Montgomery, a woman determined to compel Tristan to notice her at all costs. Having loved Tristan from afar for years, Victoria plans an elaborate ruse in an attempt to make him desire her. Her efforts are successful but Victoria soon learns that Tristan isn't the man she once believed him to be. In spite of Tristan's valiant attempts to stave off his attraction to Victoria, he experiences an overwhelming urge to possess her in body and soul. When she refuses his offer of marriage, Tristan resorts to drastic measures, determined to get what he wants regardless of the consequences. Together, Tristan and Victoria must brave dangerous phantoms of his past fueled by vicious gossip and a formidable foe who places their family in grave peril. What happens after the skilled seduction, when a man staunchly opposed to commitment discovers that he is desperately in love with his wife but fears that he has lost her affection forever?

Book 3 is the best of the series so far. I was looking forward to seeing how Victoria and Tristan's story would develop. This book has more teeth to it. There are a number of surprises along the way regarding Tristan. However, towards the end there is a lot of fluff dialogue that comes off as fillers. Almost as if TG didn't know how to end the book. However, on to book 4.

Best of the series so far.

I think this was my favorite of the series. I really liked Victoria she was strong, smart, beautiful and wasn't going to take any crap.

I liked Tristan too he was also smart and handsome. The two had some great chemistry together. There is a couple nicely written sex scenes.

The story line and plot were good. I enjoyed it very much. There was a lot of dialogue through out the entire book.

As for the narration I really like Susan Duerden, she is a great historical romance narrator. All the men sound like men. She reads with emotion as called for ie whisper, yell, cough, etc. She has a very nice reading voice too. Everyone get their own distinct voice. Great narrator.

This was a free read on my KU subscription and 1.99 for the audible so totally a great deal.

My favorite of the series. Great Narration.

I have listened to all of the books in this series and am sad to be at the end. The Narrative by Susan D. is incredible. The male voice whoever he might be weakens me with pleasure. Suzy

Spellbinding

What disappointed you about The Skilled Seduction?

The entire series and especially this book kept referencing incest. In this book the sexual abuse of the heroine by her father comes out of nowhere. It was just horrible and upsetting.

Would you ever listen to anything by Tracy Goodwin again?

No I would not listen to anything of her's again and am sorry I kept hoping for better throughout the series.
This author should stop writing books in this genre, as she has no clue about what a romance reader really wants from the characters/story. The only way I can understand her choices, is if she comes from a mountain village, where her brother could also be her cousin and incest abounds.

What didn’t you like about Susan Duerden’s performance?

I bought this book because of the narrator, but even her excellence could not save the horrific story.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I felt revulsion. I just stopped reading and wanted to have a bath to feel clean. I noticed that there were no audible reviews at the time I purchased the book. I think smarter readers gave up on the series . I just liked the character of Tristan and wanted his story to be great..what an absolute disappointment.

Any additional comments?

I can't express how much I hated this book. One of the worst points was when the hero's sister was dying and the hero/heroine decide that is the best time to have sex for the first time. I don't know ( or want to understand) what it was about having your sister dying in the bedroom down the hall from you, that would make a brother so turned on that he has to have sex. I can only hope that is not how any of my brothers would behave if I were dying. The entire "first time " scene is tainted .
I did not finish this book, as it made me feel dirty to read it.

Awful and disgusting

I cannot attempt to review the book itself only the narration I only made it to chapter 2. The narrator whispers the whole book. When you whisper the ssss sounds stick and draw out. It just bugged me.

STOP WHISPERING

I would not recommend this book to anyone. The main characters are rubbish and the writing style is...irritating. All that I could have dealt with - after all, every book can’t be a winner. It was the audible narrator’s voice that pushed me over the edge. Her pronunciation and over emphatic emphasis on certain words drove me nuts. If you spent money on the audio book you have my sympathies. I can’t finish listening to the book.

Make it stop!!!!
