About this listen
In the chilling corridors of Perfect Skin Dermatology, an unsettling truth festers. During a visit to his dermatologist, Joe meets nurse Helen Hives, and together they are caught in a twisted web, where routine medical procedures morph into ghastly experiments. As patients vanish, then reappear as beings that only echo their true forms, Joe and Helen must navigate vast underground lairs, battle genetically modified creatures, and devise a rescue plan before it’s too late.
'The Skin Doctor' is a gripping thriller where the line between science fiction and horror dissolves, challenging our perceptions of normalcy and the shocking extremes of human modification.

Just outside of Tokyo lies Aokigahara, a vast forest and one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Japan...and also the most infamous spot to commit suicide in the world. Legend has it that the spirits of those many suicides are still roaming, haunting deep in the ancient woods. When bad weather prevents a group of friends from climbing neighboring Mt. Fuji, they decide to spend the night camping in Aokigahara. But they get more than they bargained for when one of them is found hanged in the morning - and they realize there might be some truth to the legends after all.

Story
Geoff Ringer was a police detective, who never wanted to be more than that. Although he knew he had a telekinetic talent, it wasn’t something he wanted anyone to know about. Even though his reticence made him a loner, he hid his power from his friends and colleagues. Using it also reminded him of that night, which he never wanted to think about again.

Every Fairy Tale Comes From A Very Real Story. Fairy tales are just that—tales. Stories. At least that’s what nineteen-year-old Vera and her brother Lieve believed until dangerous characters from their childhood stories turn their world upside down. Running for their lives, the twins discover they’ve entered the realm of their favorite legends, but that’s only the beginning of their problems because: they don’t land together. Separated by ten years of time, they must now navigate this treacherous kingdom full of power-hungry nobles and hidden agendas, all on their own.

So many emotions!
Tom Jordan is my favorite audio book narrator, so I was super excited when I found out he was writing and narrating his own original novel! I was gifted with a copy of the audiobook, but still bought a paperback copy for my shelf collection. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll just say "The Skin Doctor" is kind of like a mesh of "The Island of Dr. Moreau" meets "The Substance". My only complaint was that I would have liked a more drawn out exposition before the action starts, but that's just a personal preference. The story is wonderful and thought-provoking, and definitely worth the listen/ read!

Disturbing, smart, and uncomfortably real
The Skin Doctor is a masterclass in modern horror—equal parts sharp satire and skin-crawling suspense. Tom Jordan turns a routine dermatology visit into a spiraling nightmare of gaslighting, grafts, and five-star Yelp manipulation. Dr. Baskin is unsettlingly familiar, Nurse Hives is both magnetic and menacing, and the clinic itself feels like a smiling façade masking something monstrous.
Jordan nails the slow-burn dread, blending corporate gloss with body horror in ways that stick with you—literally. You'll never look at glowing skin or glowing reviews the same way again. Disturbing, smart, and uncomfortably real.
Five stars. No asterisks.
Tom also narrates this and I've discovered his narration before - it does NOT disappoint. He is a great storyteller.

Dont forget your review!
This was a twisted adventure that started with a simple Dr visit, and I'm not going to lie, every corner there was something new or new problem.
The whole story was very entertaining with fast passed and excellent performance by Tom Jordan.
if you think you know what is this book about, believe me, you are in for a surprise!
