About this listen

Tucked away in the Chihuahuan Desert lies a motel unlike any other…

Fueled by online trends, a shift in the American zeitgeist has led to the instatement of the Lazarus Act, legalizing the 'recreational use' of human corpses.

Ellis Mercer, recently bereaved, embarks on a secret mission to America's first 'necrotel' to recover his wife's remains, before her corpse and his memory of her are desecrated by the motel’s twisted membership.

As he uncovers the murky inner workings of Motel Styx, evading its suspicious staff and encountering a wild array of death-obsessed guests, he will be forced to face an unsettling truth: there is more than one way to define love.

Motel Styx is a disturbingly witty tale about lust, loss, and the last taboo.

Gross and uncomfortable but it kept me hooked, very interesting concept and I loved the reviews and blog posts in between chapters. I was really hoping for a twist at the end and am kinda disappointed it never came- however I’m glad that the MMC got what was coming to him.

Honestly a well written splatterpunk

This was 3.5 for me. It is definitely different and a bit morbid. I liked it and recommend if you like “corpse love”! The audio is really good and brings a lot of life to all the death i. This story. A fun different read very unique! When necrophiles are legally able to enjoy their fantasies.

this book was incredibly well written. it isnt my cup of tea, but it was written very well. I kept thinking about the word choices and the pacing while awful scenes were unfolding. the narrator did a great job too.

Need to be ready for this one

Jonathan and Michelle are two of the most creative (and disturbed) minds in horror. In a good way! As soon as I saw this book posted, I knew I had to read it. A Necrotel. I’m howling! They put so much upfront effort, with merch and a website.
Now warning, this is transgressive horror, which is like splatterpunk light, if I’m explaining it correctly. Or as Duncan Ralston explains “Baby’s first splatterpunk”. And it’s about a hotel for Necs, as they are called, so don’t really need a warning.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was amazing! I loved the voice the narrator uses for Merl.
The story is told from the POV of Ellis, whose wife has just died. You follow his “adventures” through Motel Styx and trying not to spoil anything, I love how you really get to know Ellis as time progresses. Little peeks into his personality are seen throughout, but you don’t really meet him until the end.
This was so much fun to read. What a wild time! Well done!

So much fun. What a wild ride.

Oh my goodness! This book is quite intriguing. It delves into the various aspects of death and the arousal it can cause. While some may find the graphic content disturbing, I must admit that it is quite captivating. The violence and gore are certainly not for the faint of heart, but I believe it adds to the overall intensity of the story. I would highly recommend this book to those who enjoy extreme and dark suspenseful literature

Holy he'll this was a ride

What. The. F#*k! This was a wild ride. I particularly loved the Motel Styx reviews sprinkled throughout. They reminded me of the kinds of reviews a book like this will often have, equally split between people who love it and people who hate it.

Duuude!

This story grossed me out but had several complicated and deep characters I really enjoyed.

A disgusting good time

It was an interesting and easy read. I literally couldn't turn it off. Wasn't expecting to be left pondering ethical questions in an extreme horror novel, but there I was.

Disgusting in more ways than one... Loved it!
