About this listen

In 1987, Congressman Benjamin Hardy III died by suicide on live television amidst accusations of political corruption. Years later, rumors of a recording surfaced among VHS trading groups and urban legend chat rooms. Dubbed the "Duncan Tape," after the deceased cameraman who attempted to sell the video, the rumors allege that anyone who watches the tape is driven to suicide.

Or so the story goes. In truth, no one has ever seen the supposed Duncan Tape, presumably because it doesn't exist. It's a ghost story perpetuated on the forums and chat rooms of the internet, another handful of bytes scattered across the information superhighway at blistering 56K modem speeds.

For Robby and his friends, an urban legend is the last thing on their minds when a boring Friday night presents a chance to download porn. But the short clip they watch turns out to be something far more graphic and disturbing, and in the coming days, they'll learn even the most outlandish urban legends possess a shred of truth.

Short and Not So Sweet

I, too, came of age in the video store and remember Faces and Traces of Death. They had an irreversible effect of me, and I carry the horror of those images to this day. This novel is a reminder of what a specific kind of experience can do to a person.

Short but solid

Pretty dark but not unbelievably so. Always looking for a good mysterious vhs tape horror story/mystery. This scratched that itch just enough to make it itch more.

Very Good

This short story is very well written. Dark, somber and the right amount of scary. Well worth a listen for horror fans.

So good!

This was a nice short listen. I was able to start and finish before I even got to work. This was a great creepy listen. I recommend it to anyone who likes slightly disturbing stories.

it happened to me too...

Went into this audiobook blindly. To my surprise it also happened to me and my friend when we were very young, downloading music or movies just released online. And to our surprise, this video with many others on the same file. It was very shocking for our age and until this day still remember that specific video... excellent work on the writing to Todd Keisling! I felt very close to the story. And Tom Jordan again with his great performance made it so good!

obviously grim

It's a heavy little thing, this novella but it's also very human. In my mind, we've all reached a little too far and saw something that you could never comprehend how long it would stay with you. That's what this book is about. It's not happy at any point, really and expect an ending just as grim as the warning at the beginning. Like the warning said, don't listen to this if it'll affect you too much. Your mental health is worth more than a good story rooted in a true event.
