Long-listed, Kirkus Reviews Best Books of the Year, 2024

Enter a world ruled by dragons…

The Sky on Fire is a daring new fantasy heist adventure that will thrill fans of Temeraire, Fourth Wing, and Dragonriders of Pern

Anahrod lives only for survival, forging her own way through the harsh jungles of the Deep with her titan drake by her side. Even when an adventuring party saves her from capture by a local warlord, she is eager to return to her solitary life.

But this is no ordinary rescue. It’s Anahrod’s past catching up with her. These cunning misfits—and their frustratingly appealing dragonrider ringleader—intend to spirit her away to the dragon-ruled sky cities, where they need her help to steal from a dragon’s hoard.

There’s only one problem: the hoard in question belongs to the current regent, Neveranimas—and she wants Anahrod dead.

From Jenn Lyons, the acclaimed author of the Chorus of Dragons series, this soaring standalone fantasy combines conniving dragons, lightning banter, high-stakes intrigue, and a little bit of heat.

Loved it!

This was great. I'm wondering if it could end up being a prequel to her Chorus of Dragons series? Either way I loved it. And I was so happy to have Lauren back as the narrator!

Really fun fantasy heist

It has lots of dragons, magic, detailed world building, and a heist, what’s not to love?

masterful worldbuilding and spectacular characters come together to make a phenomenal standalone

Jenn Lyons does it again with a phenomenal story rooted in characters with amazing chemistry and braced with engaging worldbuilding. This is a must read for fantasy fans, especially if you like dragons.

As an added bonus, Lauren Fortgang's narration is excellent and she captures the essence of every character and hits the right tone for every scene

Worth the read

Really good one off with interesting characters and pretty good world building. I thoroughly enjoyed it although it wasn’t as good as some books I’ve read. Maybe needed to be 3 books with more detail?

Shifting and moving and nice

read by the amazing Lauren Fortgang, and the cast she brings to life are distinct and intricate as their development throughout. don't get me wrong, some pick up certain idiocies for plot sake, but it made sense in the grand scheme and plot of things. enjoyed this thoroughly, hopefully there's a second book, because I want more!

Bored

Relationships just ~were, they didn't get established. Found myself bored and ready for it to end. Story didn't have cohesion, felt disconjointed. Narrator was great. Hard to stay interested
