About this listen

In this suspenseful novel, bestselling author Christina McKenna questions whether anyone can ever truly be free of the darkness within us all.

Rita-Mae has lived in fear for as long as she can remember. Fear of being alone, fear of her past and, above all, fear of her husband, Harry. Until she spots an advertisement for a vacant cottage in a small town in Northern Ireland. She makes her escape filled with hope, ready to start a new life in a new home, free from the pain of her past. But her place of refuge may not be as safe - or as anonymous - as she thought.

In another small town, Dorrie wakes up unaware of where she is or how she got there. Adrift in a world for which she has no explanation, she needs to find answers quickly - before her shadowy past catches up with her.

Walled in by secrets and with no one to trust, both Rita-Mae and Dorrie are unsure how to move forward. Can each woman face her inner demons and confront a menacing presence from the past once and for all? Or will the past unravel their second chance at life?

Lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed the story and had thought I could predict the ending, but was wrong.

wickedly twisted

This book accomplished what all novels set to do and that is to hang in the readers mind long after you have read or listen to it. It’s goal was accomplished with me. I will sleep tonight thinking about Rita, Dory, Bram, Lenny and Harry.

Speechless

This was a nice story with a couple of interesting twists, but what really made it stand out was the narrator. She has such a lovely accent and acted rather than just reading the book.

great listen

The first few minutes I had to adjust to the speakers voice and accent. I’m so glad I stuck with it, what a captivating novel!

Eye opener

I'm certain that I'm going to have to read this book again, because I feel like I should've better understood what was happening before getting to the end. All in all though, this was a really good book.

Great Read... make sure to pay attention!

Fantastically written, very well developed plot. The Author keeps you engaged and rooting for the main character and the supporting characters; every character is pivotal to understanding the storyline-however I wished/hoped for a different conclusion/ending, that's my sorrow!

The Voice....that is all I can say. I wanted to get to the point in the book where I became accustomed to the narrator's voice and it didn't phase me, however, I could not!

I couldn't get through the third chapter....

This is very dull. confusing. The plot is not coming together. Not very engaging. Dragging.

VERY drawn out!

Alana Kerr Collins over dramatized her narration so much I couldn't listen for more than 6 minutes. It was cringeworthy. I got so annoyed by it, I marked the book as finished and tried to delete it from my phone. total waist of money never mind the 6 minutes of my life that I won't get back.

woeful performance
