Basic Information, Strange Narration

The information is good, basic stuff. If you've taken a creative writing class, you probably already know everything this book touches on. If you've never written in your life, this book would be a good starting point.

The narration is below average. The guy doesn't enunciate well. I had to rewind a few times to get his meaning.

So much good information...

I love it! I have so many books on writing, but I love this one for its specificity on the basics. Short, sweet and to the point is fantastic when I'm anxious to get writing rather than reading.

A pocket reference version of we writing well.

Short and powerful, this audiobook gives you "to the point" information that helps you burn in new habits to write better fiction.

The topics covered include character creation, plot, outlining, theme, syntax, and even contractions.

My only wish is that this was more in depth and used more examples. It is overall a great listen for the morning or evening commute.

Simple and effective

I have listened different books about the same subject. This is the best one by far.

Clever, Concise, Clean Cut

I love how practical, useful and motivating this book is. It's as though the author has taken the best notes out of a far more comprehensive book - giving you bullets of the most pertinent information. I have several books on my wishlist, but was worried about reading more than writing..and never quite getting started. I just listened the 1st time through - now I can go back and complete the exercises. I am very appreciative of this clever, concise - clean cut approach.

Short cheap and good

I listened to it at work and that being said I need to sit down with a pen and paper and re listen to it. A lot of it I don't agree with, but there were enough points in it that made me rethink my current novel. 4 out of 5 One thing irritated me: "Moreover"

Short and informative.

Touches some good points about a lot of things I wasn't sure about, such as the passive voice, and 1st and 3rd person narrations. How to show and not tell. Seems a little short, but nice to get some information from a man such as him.

Great book for reminding me of the basics!

I like that the book got to the point with the tips. I had a bit of an issue with how fast the man read the lists. I had to stop a couple of times to hear what he said. Other than that this was a quick and easy read. I would recommend this to anyone who are very new to the writing game and want to acquire the basics fast.

This is the book you've been looking for!

What made the experience of listening to The Step-By-Step Guide to Writing a Novel for Fiction Writers and Novelist the most enjoyable?

It got to the point and stayed on point. There was no self-promotion/buddy promotion or fluff. It delivered the goods in a concise manner.

What other book might you compare The Step-By-Step Guide to Writing a Novel for Fiction Writers and Novelist to and why?

Two books come to mind. Million dollar outlines & Story, though not as concise, I make the comparison because both authors provided there readers with quantitative information that can launch a career or take it to that higher level.

Which scene was your favorite?

The book maintained excellence throughout.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I found it delightful and refreshing. Each chapter covered the topic promised with no fluff, ego trips, or marketing.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a book that can get you started on your writing career while saving you time and money you've found it. No, lol, I don't work for Mr. Lucas nor do I know him (although I would not mind knowing him) I'm just an ordinary person sharing my impression of the book.
