About this listen

Apple Books Pick

Brandon Novak, an actor known for the films Jackass and Viva La Bam, among others, was a teenage skateboarder, but his lust for heroin led to a junkie’s destiny on the streets of Baltimore.

Arrests, rehabs, and drug-tortured love triangles consumed Novak’s life, until his childhood friend and Jackass alumnus Bam Margera guided him to MTV fame. But Novak’s stardom led him down a self-destructive path that forced him to sculpt his future.

This suspenseful memoir is interspersed with action, humor, and inspiration.

I remember watching Viva La Bam in my early 20s, I was battling with my own heroin addiction at the time. Wasn’t until years later that I learned of Novak’s addiction. I’ve read Brandon‘s first book m, Dreamseller, the week after it came out, I read it in four hours. I actually read his book 3 times. So when I heard that he had a new book out, I of course had to read it. As a recovering heroin addict myself, clean date 3/18/2005, I relate so much to what Brandon shares in this book. I truly understood on another level the story his words were creating. I could tell through his voice as he was reading, that there’s a sense of gratitude that he made it out alive. He paints a clear picture for listeners/readers and his various voices through the story we’re entertaining. I do wish the last quarter of the book wasn’t so rushed, because I would have appreciated hearing more about his early sobriety, but overall I really enjoyed this book and I’ll be listening to it again!

Loved dreamseller, loved this one too!

Much love man, we all battle addiction, demons, all kind of shit through life. It’s always refreshing to hear somebody come out on the other side.

I loved how blunt, raw and intimate this book is. The details help shed light on the difficulty and severity of addiction, and for me, even more so that it’s told/read by Brandon himself.

I’m the type to start a book and not finish. This one I listened to in 2 days! What a great story but also sad to see the real other side of how addicts live. It’s very descriptive.
