About this listen

Carole Seddon has never enjoyed holidays much. Nevertheless, she has allowed herself to be persuaded by her friend Jude to accept a fortnight’s free accommodation at a luxurious Turkish villa owned by Jude’s property developer friend Barney Willingdon.

But from the outset the holiday is marred by a series of menacing incidents. As Carole and Jude launch into what they do best - investigating - it becomes clear that Barney Willingdon has made plenty of enemies, with his ruthless business deals and complicated love life. Matters come to a head when Carole’s sightseeing trip to nearby Pinara is curtailed by the discovery of a body in one of the ancient Lycian tombs. And what really did happen to Barney’s first wife, Zoe?

Simon Brett does not disappoint!

Would you listen to The Tomb in Turkey again? Why?

I will listen to this installment of the Fethering Mystery Series again in a few years, as I do with all Simon Brett audiobooks. Carol and Jude are such wonderful characters and Simon Brett's narration is superb.

fun page turner

I loved the differences between the two ladies!
so well read!
great dialogue
I don't want this to be the last thing I say, but I don't like so much sexual stuff, publishers! not graphic, which I appreciate, but do the characters think about anything else? just wondering.
I love the puzzle to be the main thing.
enjoyed this book, even though the characters talk about sex alot.
loved the expat stuff. the stuff about another country and the food and scenery.
worth the credit.

Traveling Can Be Murder

This is a fun read. Carole and Jude travel to Turkey and of course discover a body. The story is well paced and well developed. I enjoyed it a great deal.

Fun and colorful. Will read more Simon Brett- not just a good writer but a great narrator.

Nice atmosphere and unexpected whodunnit!

Carol is maddeningly Carol and Jude is very patient. Their personalities really come into play in how the story develops. Descriptions of interesting scenery and foods and the expected types of quirky characters who normally populate this mystery series. It’s a really good mystery just trying to figure out, not only whodunnit, but what the real relationships are between the characters. I really enjoyed the story and the very good narration which was done by the author.

Another fun entry into the Carol/Jude saga

I have been enjoying the "Fethering" series available here on Audible. I don't know why this book was not listed under the "Fethering" series - perhaps an oversight, or perhaps because this particular story does not take place in Fethering, but in Turkey? Not sure. At any rate, Mr. Brett does his usual good to excellent job in narrating. Jude & Carol are up to their usual antics, including poking their noses in where they don't belong, and getting themselves in trouble. I did figure out early in the story who the perpetrator was going to be, but that did not take away my enjoyment of the story. For those to whom it is important, I would rate this, and ALL of the books in the series as a "PG-13". Very little vulgar language, NO "F-bombs", and no descriptions of sexual acts. There is mention of people having affairs/assignations, etc., but I did not find it objectionable. I would put this in the category of a "contemporary cozy mystery". I deducted one star because, IMO, the author made it very obvious who the murderer was. But it was still a fun listen!

Delightful!

Jude and Carol are on top of their game in this travel to Turkey novel.
I had read six other Brett books previously. I like Simon's writing.
This was my first with Jude & Carol and what a treat it was!

Stupid!

What disappointed you about The Tomb in Turkey?

90% talking about food, wine and feelings and 10% mystery.

Would you ever listen to anything by Simon Brett again?

Not if it's like this one was.

Any additional comments?

Every book until this one was very enjoyable. This one was just plain stupid and did not come close to any normal reality.

Life is to short to read bad books

After 9 chapters I gave up hope that the repetitive digs against Carole Seddon might stop and the author might consider sharing why the new age healer type was her friend. I have a pretty good idea of how it's going to end. Life is too short to waste more time reading this book.

Major flaw!!!

The Turkish name Ercan is pronounced Air-Jahn *NOT* Ur-Can! Agreed that the plot seems to have been a write off for the author's vacation, perhaps.
