About this listen

A masterfully told psychological thriller from NUMBER ONE bestseller Valerie Keogh

His prized possession....his greatest mistake?

From the moment I saw Ann, I knew she was perfect for me.

Her beauty and her social connections would make my miserable life so much better. It didn’t matter that I didn’t love her. I would give her the lifestyle she craved, and she would give me the life I deserved...

But soon my marriage vows were a noose around my neck.

I longed to escape my beautiful, horrible wife.

And then I saw her and I knew there was only one way out…

Don't miss the brand new thriller by Valerie Keogh! Perfect for fans of Sue Watson, Shalini Boland and K.L. Slater.

So many surprises and twists! Ultimately it’s the complete unraveling of one man living a life unfulfilled, unloved, and without meaning until it does?!? So so good how it seamlessly journeys to unexpected paths and revelations!!

Narration was excellent!!

My 5th Audible listen by this author. Again, this one was very well-written, interesting from the start and continuing straight through to the end. The narration hit the nail on the head. The narrator seemed the perfect match, and brought each of the varied characters to life, especially his first person enactment of this very unique main character was particularly impressive. He had an uncanny ability to "be" that character, every nuance and inflection and his tone and unique viewpoint, with intelligence, irony, and sometimes understated (or blatantly stated at times) sarcastic humour. The coupling of excellent writing and narration made this a compelling story. I couldn't help but wish Jake had been able to make some better choices along the way, because I would have wanted things to turn out better for him.

Riveting Story and Narration!

If you like English noir and a great plot this is your book. Well crafted great narration.

Excellent read

I almost think the title was a bit misleading because the story was more about the husband than the wife, as she didn't enter the story til half way through.
It was a crazy ride though that last 25% of the book - twists and turns and whoa. He was a bit of the dumbest criminal ever mixed in with a whole lot of insanity.
Very interesting listen I almost feel I need to sit with this one and let it soak in for awhile.

A lot to unpack here

Weird but very exciting book. I did nothimg else but read the book. I didn't WANT to do anything but read the book! Performance was excellent. Thank you, Valerie Keogh - you've slipped into the place of my favourite writer.

Kept me glued from pg to pg

I love the author and have many of her books in my Audible library. I’m surprised at this one. The story was flat and the narrator was monotone and boring. It started to be interesting near the end, while the rest of the book dragged.

I kept waiting for it to get better
