About this listen

The next gripping psychological thriller by the author of How I Lost You, Jenny Blackhurst’s number-one international best seller, about a psychiatrist and patient relationship that turns not only toxic...but deadly.

Karen, Eleanor, and Bea have been best friends since childhood. They know everything about each other’s lives, or at least they think they do. Now they're in their thirties, though their lives are beginning to diverge: Eleanor is a young wife and mother who is struggling to cope with her many responsibilities; Bea is happy being single - or so she lets people think; and Karen is a psychiatrist who, despite the secrets in her past, considers herself the anchor of the group.

But when she takes on a new patient with issues she just can’t quite put her finger on, she begins to realize she may have put her dearest friends in danger. Because her patient knows more about these three women than anyone outside their circle possible could. Or should....

"An astounding and original thriller with a complex relationship between three women at its heart and an explosive conclusion." (B. A. Paris, New York Times best-selling author of Behind Closed Doors)

Different

I was leary, the publisher's blurb
enough to arouse my curiosity in
what this author could produce
as a good mystery with such a small group.of characters in a tight story line. looking back now, the mystery will hold the reader's interest as the plot twists
surprise. Think of this as a snow globe, another version of The Group, the movie with Candace Bergen.

Really twisty!

I really enjoyed this book, the character development was great. I did have a problem with going back and forth between present and past and also with who was talking. Still a great story that's a little different than most in this genre. I thoroughly enjoy books that deal with female friendships so this was right up my alley!

Excellent!

I love a good psychological thriller, and this did not disappoint! Kept me on my toes, and kept me guessing right up to the end.

Unnecessarily Convoluted...Could Not Finish

I read/listen to a Lot of Audibles and books... I could not follow this story. Author jumps around timelines, which is usually not a problem, except she mostly does so without letting us know when/where we are in time. Same thing with names and pronouns...you have no idea who is talking or about whom they are talking. Narrator doesn't change each charactor's voice enough to help differentiate.

Plot is unnecessarily convoluted. I have no idea how this ends, because I only made it to chapter 16 or so before I gave up on it.

I will return this book.

Don't waste your time

Any additional comments?

Jenny Blackhurst jumped too quickly between characters and chapters were very rapid. This book was confusing and hard to follow. Please do not waste your time unless you yearn for confusion until the very end. Im not sure I will read her again.

to be fair...

I was so immediately turned off by the crass drunken sounding voice of the narrator and the vulgar language right from the start, I just returned it. I listen with my kids in the car , I can't warm up to the voice or the language.
