About this listen

In this sequel to The Pecan Man, Eldred Mims has died in prison after serving time for a crime he did not commit. When Ora Lee Beckworth decides to set the record straight, her confession leaves Blanche Lowery's daughters, Patrice and Grace, to grapple with the aftermath of a lifetime of lies. Now the sisters must reframe everything they thought they knew about their mother, their brother, and the man they knew as Eddie.

A very enjoyable sequel. It answered a lot of question about the first book. And, you get a chance to know the cast as adults. I liked this old lady, being a Southerner and old, I emphasized with her. ENJOY!

Very enjoyable

I loved the Pecan Man and loved this even more. Thought provoking, enlightening, and full of human fraility and triumph.

one of the best

How was this free listen?!? Loved protagonist narration. I also recognize Turpin is great in her own right but the old white lady was just incredible. Performance aside, it is a great story with characters so well developed it's hard to keep remembering this is fiction and that they are not historical people! It's a beautiful redemptive tale of family, recovery, childhood trauma and all in the intricate mind of a white lady who hates racism but falls into the white savior trap. Loved both books. What's next for this author? I'm hooked

Sequel as good as the Pecan Man

I listened to The Pecan Man first and loved it. But I think I liked this one even more than the first.
The narrators did a great job making the audience feel as if they were truly in the story.

Beautiful and impactful story

Most stories don't give both sides of the story this one does. I recommend it.

The whole picture

In only 2 volumes I have come to feel as though I know these people personally. Without the residue of cliché, we are invited in and granted opportunity to walk with family without being made to feel like Dovey from across the way.

Well done and thank you.

Familiar

A big "thank you" to Audible for including this author's works in their "included" selections. These books have a comforting tone to them, it warms the soul. These are characters that you care deeply about, thinking of them long after the books are finished. I rate them them right up with "The Secret Life of Bees" & "The Help". Don't hesitate to download them, you too will be swept up by these very special characters.

Exceptional!
