About this listen

What would happen if you admitted you weren't a good person?

It's a seemingly crazy question. From priests to prisoners, nearly everyone thinks they're morally better than average. Why change our minds? Why admit the truth about ourselves?

In his conversational and delightfully self-effacing style, Brant Hansen shows us why we should fight our drive to be self-righteous: it's breathtakingly freeing. What's more, just admitting that we're profoundly biased toward ourselves and want desperately to preserve our rightness at all costs even helps us think better, make better decisions, be better listeners, and improve our relationships with God and others.

Hansen draws from biblical insight and the work of everyone from esteemed social psychologists to comedians to make his point: the sooner we get over ourselves, give up the I'm good internal dialogue, and admit the truth, the sooner we can live a more lighthearted, fruitful, fun-loving life. After all, as Hansen writes, the humble life is truly your best one.

Another wonderful book by Brant Hansen. I have listened to Blessed are the Misfits and Unoffendable and this one spoke to me just as much as they did. Thank you Brant for speaking truth in ways and words this lady can understand and reflect on. Your books have changed my life. Continue to let the Lord speak through you in your writings and audible words. I and many many others are listening! And thank you for reading your own book. I love when the author reads their own writing. You can get the true heart of what they are trying to say.

Wonderful

this is the ultimate self-help book because it shows that you can’t help yourself and you can’t tell that you can’t help yourself. You need to humbly ask God for His help. Like i do. Like everyone does.

Get this book if you are worried about being good enough or if you’re not

It's the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational!! We're a complete mess, and God loves us so much.

We're a disaster like the Muppet Show

Brant Hansen writes and thinks like a modern day C.S. Lewis. He understands our thought processes and how we get tripped up. He shows us how to get over ourselves and keep our eyes and hearts turned to Christ and others. Unaffendable has changed my life. I recommend it any chance I get. Thank you Brant! May God continue to bless you and your family!

Love all of Brant Hansen's books!

Brant, thank you for putting into words what I’ve known in my heart! I loved listening to The truth about us and plan to listen again with my husband. Awareness of my self-righteousness and my need for humility draws me closer to the heart of Christ. I now have more clarity on how important it is to bring everything to Jesus and to serve with a living heart.

Everyone needs to hear this truth!

This book, like unoffendable, is a slap of needed truth that will help you if you are brave enough to accept it.

Amazing … feel like he wrote the book about me lol

Learning to accept that I don't have the answers, I don't truly know my own motives, and that we all have a love/hate relationship with ourselves has really helped me up lighten up, love others without questioning their motives, and truly understand that people's "goodness" isn't what matters - I'm not good. No one is. That's a heavy burden to finally get rid of.
God's goodness is what matters. This book reminded me of that.
When I'm able to rest in His goodness, I take the pressure off myself. And, possibly more importantly, off of others.
The cross leveled the playing field! Thank you Jesus!

Life changing

Brant Hansen has inspired me for years. He consistently helps me point my life back to Jesus while making me laugh at him, myself and human nature. He does a fantastic job narrarating his work and the Garfeild sound to his voice is actually quite relaxing. His books never disappoint and this one is no different.

Gotta love Jesus, gotta love Brant
