About this listen

In this stirring follow-up to his memoir, Steve Pemberton gives practical encouragement for how you can be a "human lighthouse" for others and through these inspiring stories will renew your hope for humanity.

Our polarized, divisive culture seems to be without heroes and role models. We are adrift in a dark sea of disillusionment and distrust, and we need "human lighthouses" to give us hope and direct us back to the goodness in each other and in our own hearts.

Steve Pemberton found a lighthouse in an ordinary man named John Sykes, his former high school counselor. John gave Steve a safe harbor after Steve escaped an abusive foster home and together they navigated a new path that led to personal and professional success. Through stories of people like John and several others, you will identify how the hardships you have overcome equip you to be a "human lighthouse", inspiring those around you.

The humble gestures of kindness that change the course of our lives can shift the course for America, too. With a unique vision for building up individuals and communities and restoring trust, The Lighthouse Effect opens your eyes to those who are quietly heroic. You will reflect on the lighthouses in your own life and be reminded that the greatest heroes are alongside us - and within us.

Relevance

In a day and age where these scenarios are all but becoming the norm, to hear someone speak of how to be a beacon to someone else is remarkable. We don’t have to live by the adage that negativity breeds negativity, it can also breed hero’s and guardians. Thank you for sharing these stories.

An Inspiring Tearjerker

This was a really great and inspiring story, love the writing style and the way everything ties together. I cried through most of the stories, but I would still recommend this book. And the narrator was excellent, very clear and easy to understand.

Guidance while I was dealing with change.

Everyone goes through life changes - new jobs, relationships, moving to a new location. For me, as I read this book amongst the changes I’m experiencing, I found great peace and acceptance with the process as a result.

Excellent book (so is his other book A Chance in The World).

Inspiring Collection

Steve’s life’s journey to date from A Chance In the World set a tone for extraordinary courage and strength as well as the power of faith.
In this book, The Lighthouse Effect, the contributions of those like Claire Levin and John Sykes, who were ordinary people with an extraordinary sense of compassion and generosity gives inspiration to just do good. Heroism is humanized. Whether trying to save as many lives during 9/11, offering refuge, or something else. This book reaffirms that we all may be a hero to someone by being our best selves. Letting those altruistic tendencies flourish, we will find ways to change the world for ourselves and others regardless of our chosen vocation and path as well as socioeconomic or other measure of success. There is something noteworthy for everyone to contemplate about themselves and others in their lives past and present. Love the connectedness of these 10 seemingly disparate stories. Start anywhere, but read them all. I loved it.

Inspirational and moving, motivating

I was so surprised to run across this book! Not only because it came at a timely moment, but because I have had a business by that name for sometime and its sole purpose is to motivate, and encourage people. Particularly ones that have found themselves in difficult circumstances and/or fallen on hard times. Beautifully written and narrated!

WOW!!!!

“The Lighthouse Effect” is the perfect salve to heal the deep wounds of divisiveness that ravage our world today. Each of us can indeed become a Lighthouse. In doing so, we can heal ourselves and the world. One ship at a time. Bravo Steve Pemberton!
