Chapters 2 and 3 were a bit redundant and elementary to me but the author states that the book is meant for people of all backgrounds. The rest of the book was very insightful and helped me build mental models of what happened in past relationships and how to analyze future relationships (as a soon to be 23 yo male). Thank you Orion for writing an amazing book I will be buying a physical copy.

The most profound book I have read on the behavioral economics behind modern-day relationships

I listened to this book at the perfect time. After processing another failed relationship, the teachings within have completely changed my perspective on relationships as a whole. I've pushed for monogamous relationships due to societal pressures, but as a successful man in my prime, it's the last thing I should do.

I saw a few of Dr. Taraban's provocative but informative videos so I had a vague idea of who he was: a psychologist and expert on couples and the dynamics of their relationships. I picked the audiobook almost randomly as I saw it in the new releases section.
First, Dr. Taraban provides deep insight on the strange game of modern mating - from the pre-mating "hunting & fishing" that single people do, to the negotiation of the dating and trial relationship process, and then the longer term permanent (or so we may hope) relationships. But this is by no means a feel-good book, and Dr. Taraban is probably the opposite of a feel-good TV therapist! He is often uncomfortable to listen to. What do men really want, and what do women really want? The power imbalances in every relationship, the illusion of 50/50, and how what we say/think we want rarely rarely coincides with reality.
The book is entertaining, educational, informative, but above all, challenging. Even if you don't agree with everything Dr. Taraban says, you will find value in the way he makes you think about the topics. I didn't want the book to end, because it was learning so much. And I say that as someone who never had trouble dating attractive women and now in a long term marriage, I got valuable insights. I'll gift a copy to my young adult daughter. I have never met Dr. Taraban, and he surely has never heard of me, but this is an instant favorite.
:Lastly, I will leave this observation: It's a very different type of book than those by author Robert Greene, but if you like Green's books, you probably will enjoy this one too. I hope we can expect more from Dr. Taraban.

Splendid! I wish I had this book when I was 20!

Clear and concise review of literature on relationships, adding a ton of value to my life and choices I am faced with when approaching the relationship topics. Interestingly enough, I found both the first and the last chapters akin to a cherry on top in terms of shifting my perception on relationships.

Comprehensive information on relationships

Can you include an accompanying pdf of the graphs mentioned in Chapter 11? I can imagine them, but seeing them would be appreciated.

I liked the book. I think it answers lots of questions about why we see a decline in relationships and commitment. While there’s always other answers and being someone of faith I do believe in marriage I think this book gives a fantastic account of all the dynamics that encompass a relationship and value. The last chapter was my favorite. Great work.

Great perspective.

Some of the chapters were a little difficult to follow due to all the back and forth of the concepts

Many of the concepts were new to me
