About this listen

After the success of their desperate mission to Salvation's Reach, Colonel Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First race to the strategically vital forge world of Urdesh, besieged by the brutal armies of Anarch Sek. However, there may be more at stake than just a planet. The Imperial forces have made an attempt to divide and conquer their enemy, but with Warmaster Macaroth himself commanding the Urdesh campaign, it is possible that the Archenemy assault has a different purpose to decapitate the Imperial command structure with a single blow. Has the Warmaster allowed himself to become an unwitting target? And can Gaunt's Ghosts possibly defend him against the assembled killers and war machines of Chaos?

Another great Gaunt's Ghosts novel.

It's nothing like I predicted. The rank Gaunt was promoted wasn't removed for dramatic effect. The end set up for the next novel.

excellent story, however...

the character yoncie was painful to listen to each time, for a number of reasons. the voice actor for yoncie is incredibly too high pitched for the voice, then the "papa, mama" stuff is incredibly creepy, no other kids ever talked like that in any other book. I felt nyself using the "skip 30 seconds" feature more and more to just overall avoid the yoncie sections. I was actively wishing the sons of sect would take her and that would be the end of her character.

Awesome!

Excellent!
Voice-work was exemplary, perfectly captured the myriad moments, accents and moods of Dan Abnett’s dark millennium.

Took the win right out of my sails

Damn! What a fantastic read or listen. Some truly pivotal moments in the Gaunt's Ghosts story line and in the history of the Tanith First and Only! If you have been reading this series or even just a fan of science fiction then give this one a shot

My favorite book in the series.

Such a great moment of triumph after years of sacrifice for the ghosts. I just wish Toby was the narrator. Maybe they will rerecord now that the rest of the series is done. I'd happily purchase!

good story and narration.

This one has substance. I do feel a little annoyed that they ended it in the middle of a campaign. But the ending is somewhat of a high note a high note.

A Great Capstone

If this is the last of the Ghosts then it ended perfectly. Plots I've always wanted closed up were done just right.

Was waiting F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

I would like to start with the review by stating that each “Reader” has their own flavor to each of the books they read. And they do it as best as they can, Bringing characters to life by reading out their Names, their Voices etc. painting the personality of each Characters. I have gotten used to one “Reader” especially, just because he read almost all the Gaunt’s series and did it, in my humble opinion, spectacularly! I was eagerly waiting for the next series and to my surprise as well to all who are reading this, was “changed” to, NOT only one person, BUT TWO! It was a struggle at first to listen to a new “reader”. But the suspense of the story had motivated me to ignore the “changes”. Just musing but, did they really did “their” due diligence to listen to the old audiobooks and maybe have their “reading” style followed the previous one? I mean, come on. But anyway, the series is full of surprises. Kinda ruined for myself though. I listened to the Sabbat Crusades various stories first. Yes, yes. This series was out before that, but I was waiting for the rest of the books before salvation reach to come out. Oh well. Now, onto the next one.

Gaer tar mortec

This novel has some great moments for McCall aside from the main run of Gaunt's ascension into a Lord Militant. Minor criticisms include: James Cameron Stewart's impression of Yoncy is nails on a chalkboard. artillery fire is briefly referred to as landing a couple of "miles" away before returning to the God Emperor's metric system. Dan still refers the the feeding containers of ammunition designed to supply firearms as "clips", a common wrong term for "magazine".
