After her divorce, Charlene Dugan vowed never to get married again - a promise she has kept for twenty-five years. Until the fateful day she finds herself uttering the well-known phrase - "Let's get married!" Almost immediately, Charlene's seemingly perfect life begins unraveling at the seams. Daughter Stephanie's own relationship is about to disintegrate, and she might be just a teensy-weensy bit jealous of her mom. And Charlene seems to be spending more time with her ex-husband than with her fiancé, Dennis. What's more confusing is that Dennis doesn't seem to mind too much. In fact, he sees the wedding consultant more often than Charlene does. The wedding party is now officially out of control. They're calling for rain and the bride has cold feet. This isn't exactly what Charlene had in mind. But maybe it's not too late to finally decide on who and what she really wants.

Well enough written but I just didn’t connect with the characters. I was entertained with the opening chapter of Charlene’s worst day, but it didn’t make me connect. Then she was petulant with Jake and willing to ‘cut off her nose to spite her face’ by walking in the rain. Then I lost respect for her when she suddenly decided she should marry Dennis. Desperation? More spite? Yeah, no. Her surface maturity was exposed and I’m at the age where I want more emotional intelligence in my lead characters, whether they’re 15 or 75. So I started skipping through the story until the end.
I finished Kiwi Sin by Rosalind James just before this book and that one blew this away. Yes, I’ve followed James from the beginning of her NZ series and they just keep getting better. Escape to New Zealand series, then Not Quite a Billionaire series, then into her current NZ Ever After series where characters from both series overlap. All the feels you could intelligently hope for.
Plummer is an excellent narrator and does a great job voicing Carr books.
