About this listen

The debut crime thriller series of the year!

Four missing children, three murdered men and the helm of a boat with a blood-red sail, hiding a secret only he can tell.

Returning to the Broads after nearly two years at sea, John Tanner moors up next to a boat to find the body of a man whose five-year-old daughter is nowhere to be seen. As a torrent of unwanted memories begins flooding through his mind, an attractive Broads Ranger arrives at the scene with a disturbing tale; one of children being taken by a ghostly figure, standing at the helm of an old wooden boat.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a dark cozy murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance which will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

The Wherryman is a totally addictive gripping crime thriller, the sixth in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd and J M Dalgliesh into David Blake devotees.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I've read so many books since then that I had to go back and read the other review to try to remember what happened. AND then I remembered Jenny and how ticked off I was at this author for that!

Anyway, lots of killings and stolen children that Tanner had to solve.

No sex and the F-bomb was used 16 times.

As for the narration: Jonathan Keeble is one of the very BEST English narrators.

Great book and wonderful narration..

The series has taken a real uptick with this novel. The elimination of a VERY annoying character by end of previous book, plus introduction of a new & much better one really helped. Main character is deeper, & much more believable now. Good story, much improved venue descriptions, characters are fleshing out. Narrator is quite good. A few mis-use of words & other minor editing errors are not enough to significantly detract. Recommended. On to the next one!

Best in series so far - LISTEN IN ORDER!

what melodramatic Productions these are. And the foolishness and ineptness of the characters is also a hoot!

I had forgotten

I liked this more than I thought I would. However, Tanner’s actions are out of line for normal police procedure as far as I can tell. I must admit the ending was the least liked part of the book for me. It was sad and rather violent.

The narration was a plus. Jonathan Keeble does his usual fine job.

Tanner’s back

i wish I could collect a credit for every
book featuring a beautiful female character with green eyes. i went to high school with a classmate who sported eyes the color of Siamese
cats. Eyes were blue or brown.
Now green is the go-to color for
the 21st century eyes. It means
I'm not gonna like the book.... just as
I disliked this one.

Tanner is back to having unnecessary fits of rage and jumping to conclustions that cloud his judgement. He is ready to jump in the sack with his new interest despite barely knowing her. So much for Jenny being the love of his life. Seems he is more interested in getting a paycheck and using Jenny's death as an excuse to play and drink rum (tired of his overdrinking). I am barely hanging on to this series. I suspect a lot of the rave reviews are from people not familar with this genre or mystery/crime or this region of England. I would suggest reading Joy Ellis or Peter Granger for the feel of the fens and coast and better characters. Again, narrator super, he is what kept my interest.

Characters and storyline not compelling
