About this listen

The perfect house or the perfect lie?

The moment my husband showed me Cliffside - a sleek and modern glass home perched on the edge of the jagged Big Sur clifftops - I fell in love. And right there and then I made a pact with myself. I am never leaving this house.

But when my husband was killed on the perilous roads leading up to the house, weeks after we moved in, I had a decision to make - leave the home I love and start a new life or stay and shut myself off from the world? I am never leaving this house.

As I pieced together my shattered life, my mind began to play tricks on me. Footsteps along the beach, leading to my home, then blood-red flowers left on my doorstep with a note that read "Looking at you". So I retreated back to the safety of my glass refuge once again. I am never leaving this house.

But now, as I stare out of the towering windows of my perfect home, I know there is someone out there staring back. I know that they are watching my every move, waiting to make me pay for my past mistakes.

This pulse-racing psychological thriller from USA Today best-selling author Arianne Richmonde will have you hooked. If you are a fan of The Woman in the Window, Gone Girl, and Netflix’s You, you will love The Wife’s House. Prepare to stay up all night!

Thank goodness for the end

The narrarator is so aggravating. Who talks like that. I was going to return the book simply because her voice was so annoying. I hung in there. At least it had a good ending.

How a narrator ruined a story

This story held my attention for awhile but I couldn’t stand the narrator. Strange accents, very breathy, weird pauses. I did listen to the whole thing because I wanted to find out what happens. What a bizarre tale.

Read it. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS BOOK.

I have listened to hundreds of audio books and this was the most painful narration of a book ever. I have many character flaws and the same
One that make me unable to make more than one trip into the house is the same one that makes me unable to finish a book, even when it’s dreadful. (I’ve got to figure out a way to manage this trait as this narration will
haunt me for years.) The story was good. But read it, don’t listen to it. Seriously.

great story I couldn't put the book down.

but I will not read this author again because I do not like the language that was used. It was totally unnecessary to put in such trash and what was otherwise a great book.

Full of plot twists but distracting narration

The plot was full of interesting plot twists that kept me engaged and interested. I was, however, very distracted often by the voice performance. The narrator had this clipped, stilted delivery where one word sounded like a sentence: "I. Didn't. Know." that affect can sometimes be used to emphasize each word for a purpose, but that wasn't the case here. I had other issues with the audio but I don't know how to describe them. It was like parts -- just a sentence or two -- were recorded separately; at first I thought these changes in clarity (?, not sure what to call it) were a change in the character speaking, but it wasn't. Overall, though, I like the book, but I will hesitate a lot before listening to another book with this narrator.

Don’t even try! I gave it four attempts.

The narration was just plain annoying. I’ve listened to Helen Duff before, however, her dialect and vocals in this one are extremely exaggerated and I just couldn’t get past a few chapters. Her irritating voice grated on my nerves. Just goes to show, a good book can indeed be ruined by a poor narrator.
