Publisher's summary

In the war-torn lands of Molthune and Nirmathas, where rebels fight an endless war of secession against an oppressive military government, the constant fighting can make for strange alliances. Such is the case for the man known only as the Masked, the victim of a magical curse that forces him to hide his face, and an escaped halfling slave woman named Tantaerra. Thrown together by chance, the two fugitives find themselves conscripted by both sides of the conflict and forced to search for a magical artifact that could help shift the balance of power and end the bloodshed for good. But in order to survive, the thieves will first need to learn to the one thing none of their adventures have taught them: how to trust each other.

From New York Times bestselling author and legendary game designer Ed Greenwood comes a new adventure of magic, monsters, and unlikely friendships, set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

RPG in a book

Listening felt like I was at an RPG table with all the game-like elements. Very engaging and opens of the world of Golarion.

exhausting but worthwhile adventure.

this book is grueling but in a good way the characters never have a chance to catch their breath and its so well done that you feel just as worn out as they do in their adventure.

Running and more Running

It had a decent start. The dialogue was good and the voice actor was great. But the book was 80% chase scenes. I got tired just from listening to all the chase scenes back to back. The ending didn't make much sense for their characters.

A well performed boring story is still boring.

What disappointed you about The Wizard's Mask?

The biggest problem with the wizards mask was the Poor pacing of the story. Ttaking till almost A quarter of the way into the story before starting the actual plot . Also The constantly repeating Chase sequences almost had be skipping ahead to see if there was an actual plot

What could Ed Greenwood have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

While introducing the characters is extremely important it could've been done in a more creative way then having them constantly chased by random different groups repeatedly throughout the first quarter of the novel.

What does Fleet Cooper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

While the story itself was doll in unengaging the performance of the story was actually quite good the narrator managed to produce a unique character in each of the other wise uninteresting protagonists

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Really the only redeeming quality of this book would have to be the decent performance of the narrator

Don't bother. It's HORRIBLE

Let me preface this with I have read/listened to a ton of Pathfinder and Ed Greenwood novels. I would liken this book to the Lord of the Rings books....but not the good parts. Mostly the Sam and Frodo parts....where they are just plodding through the forest complaining. The book is a series of pointless chase scenes and meaningless skirmishes. The transition between scenes is so fast it's hard to separate them so that you are trying to figure out how they just went from a pointless fight to sleeping on the roof. This would be better served by adding a 2 second pause between scenes but would have the unfortunate side effect of making this book longer. The 2 main characters are continually attacked by soldiers from 1 of 2 warring nations without warning and then unwittingly saved when the other nation attacks the other soldiers. At the rate at which this happens I am convinced no one actually lives and or talks in these nations. That being said: I am only 5 hours in, with 7 hours to go....but it's been a rough 5 hours.....like colonoscopy prep rough. I still have 7 hours to go and, like an idiot, I am going to finish it because I am either gullible enough to believe that no one would publish a book this bad without some amazing redeeming quality right around the corner or I am a literary masochist. Considering I read the entirety of Battlefield Earth it could be either one.....but I am leaning towards the second.
