About this listen

"They came for me, just like I knew they would."

Luke had been dead for just three days. Rose Wilks' life is shattered when her newborn baby, Joel, is admitted to intensive care. Emma Hatcher has all that Rose lacks. Beauty. A loving husband. A healthy son. Until tragedy strikes and Rose is the only suspect. Now, having spent nearly five years behind bars, Rose is just weeks away from freedom. Her probation officer, Cate, must decide whether Rose is remorseful for Luke s death, or whether she remains a threat to society. As Cate is drawn in, she begins to doubt her own judgement. Where is the line between love and obsession, can justice be served and, if so...by what means?

Editorial reviews

Ruth Dugdall's disquieting psychological thriller delves into the depths of human need with her study of the intelligent and disturbed Rose Willks. Informed by the author's experience as a probation officer, The Woman Before Me's suspense is hypnotic and its twists are sure to surprise.

Susannah Tyrrell, with her own background in psychology, has a voice soothing and warm, drawing the ear to the novel's provocative portrayal of motherhood and adding a haunting sympathy to a character who may or may not deserve it, but reveals with her secrets how our pasts shape our future.

Good story, needed a different reader

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, great story.

What other book might you compare The Woman Before Me to and why?

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (Movie)

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Susannah Tyrrell?

perhaps someone who sounded younger; no offense to Susannah but the voice didn't match the character

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no

Good story, but needs a different narrator

The story overall is good if not a bit predictable, but the narrator really made me struggle to get through it. Her voice sounded at least 30 years too old for the character. Her actual performance was fine, but she was definitely the wrong choice for characters so youthful.
