Yes, you can love God and binge Netflix!

Podcaster Knox McCoy, cohost of The Popcast with Knox and Jamie, tells hilarious stories about how pop culture helped him answer life’s biggest questions in his debut book, The Wondering Years. Through books, television, music and movies, Knox found many of the answers he was searching for about God and why we’re all here.

When you hear the phrase pop culture, you likely think reality television, boy bands, or Real Housewives of various cities. While these are elements of popular culture, they aren’t all it has to offer. Pop culture may not cure diseases or make scientific breakthroughs, but it does play a vital role in the story of humanity.

From the first time he was punched in the face to saving dog souls as a canine evangelist, Knox reflects on how pop culture has helped shape his life and carve out the foundation of his faith. While the three cultural tent poles - the South, the Church, and Sports - defined many aspects of his East Tennessee upbringing, it was pop culture that influenced Knox and his sense of the world at large.

Pocast listener-LOVED this book

I’ve been listening to the Popcast for about a year as well as the Bible Binge (a personal fav). So much of this book is relatable to me as a kid who grew up in the church and felt out of place at times. Being a pop culture fiend myself, I relate to so many references in this book. Thank you Knox for sharing yourself with us. As for other listeners, GET THIS BOOK!

Exactly Awesome

In honor of the pop culture refs in this book, I quote Michael Scott, “I thought it was exactly awesome.” Knox’s journey of faith, his love of pop culture, and how those framed his life are all tied together beautifully. As a faithful listener of the Popcast, and proud supporter of them on Patreon, I was so excited for this. But man, it exceeded all of my expectations. It made me laugh, made me think, and even get a little misty-eyed. Loved it. You won’t regret adding this to your collection.

Funny and thought provoking

I knew I would like this book simply based on the fact that I love the Popcast with Knox and Jamie. It’s a good, easy listen, and was enjoyable. Knox reading his book allowed his sarcasm to shine through. And for that I am grateful.

Wheezy laugh!

There is nothing better than having a familiar voice (hello weekly Popcast episodes) read his own book to you! Knox you are a delight. Your book is a delight! Your words caused laughter and deeper thought. This book is a gem!

Where was screaming Knox

I have to give this 5 stars because it’s worth it. But I was sad that I didn’t to hear the shouting exasperated Knox I’ve come to love.

Great book

This book made me feel so much like Knox and I lived the same life just in different states with different parents. I laughed and “Amen”ed my way through this book. I love Knox’s honesty and feel like he is speaking for so many of us in this generation. His expression of doubts and wrestling with questions/spiritual ideas is honesty without pretense like I feel so many spiritual books have these days. His reading of the book made it even better than if I had read it with Knox’s voice in my mind. Love it all.

I identify!

I identified so much with the author’s story. Having grown up in a deeply religious culture and questioning so much of it, yet still believing the core of what I was taught, this book had me laughing out loud. It’s a great listen.

Enjoyable read

This book was witty and nostalgic in all the right places. I appreciate the honesty and the humor. I especially enjoyed the part about the antichrists and the hangover/dog. Nailed it.
