About this listen
At the wood's edge, cultures collide. Can two families survive the impact?
The 1757 New York frontier is home to the Oneida tribe and to British colonists, yet their feet rarely walk the same paths. On the day Fort William Henry falls, Major Reginald Aubrey is beside himself with grief. His son, born that day, has died in the arms of his sleeping wife.
When Reginald comes across an Oneida mother with newborn twins, one white, one brown, he makes a choice that will haunt the lives of all involved. He steals the white baby and leaves his own child behind. Reginald's wife and foundling daughter Anna never suspect the truth about the boy they call William, but Reginald is wracked by regret that only intensifies with time, as his secret spreads its devastating ripples.
When the long buried truth comes to light, can an unlikely friendship forged at the wood's edge provide a way forward? For a father tormented by fear of judgment, another by lust for vengeance. For a mother still grieving her lost child. For a brother who feels his twin's absence, another unaware of his twin's existence. And for Anna, who loves them both - Two Hawks, the mysterious Oneida boy she meets in secret, and William, her brother. As paths long divided collide, how will God direct the feet of those who follow Him?

Such a wonderful tale, well written and beautifully narrated. This story is movie worthy...with Colin Firth as Aubrey of course!

Enjoyable with mixed feelings
This was an interesting enough plot, but not one of my favorite by Lori. I think I would have enjoyed the story more but the narration didnt do it for me. The highlight was the friendship between Two Hawks and Bear's Heart, it was sweet.

Awesome
Great history woven through this story. The narrator is the best, using the corresponding level of emotion the writer intended and acting tje parts with great feeling.
I would prefer the author not go into such detail about how tingles shot through thwir bodies as the looked at each other's lips, or other such nonsense! To me, this is how middle-school girls speak to each other about their crushes.
Overall a terrific story!

A pioneer story of great sin and greater reconciliation.
I wouldn’t have found this treasure if I hadn’t met Lori when she visited our church and spoken to her. We discovered a mutual love for historical fiction. Here is a well-written story from pre-American revolution times that brings the culture and events of the day into focus as she spins a tale of redemption.

What a journey!
You won't be able to call this predictable, or just another novel. It is one you won't easily forget. What a journey of pain, loss, love and a beautiful portrayal of true forgiveness. Beautifully done!

good story but more religious than anticipated
i liked the story and the narration was very good.... i did have an issue with the constant references to God.... while i am not an atheist i still felt this was geared more towards religious reading

Not what I️ hoped for
Storyline unbelievable. At least I️ thought so. Originally I️ wanted to do the series, not so sure after the first book. To much gazing into each other’s eyes and such for me.
