About this listen

The human race just got bumped from the top of the food chain....

Early fall. A top-secret research project goes terribly wrong. A new species, the Reapers, are unleashed onto the unsuspecting citizens of Philadelphia and soon the rest of the country. The Reapers are stronger, faster, and have no mercy for any humans who have the misfortune of crossing their paths.

Philadelphia cop Malcolm Foster quickly discovers a routine disturbance call is anything but ordinary. Foster soon finds himself scrambling to survive, gather together a rag-tag group of survivors, and get them out of the city. As Foster and his group fight to escape the city and find a Reaper-free sanctuary, a looming question prevails.

Can anyone stop the Reapers from taking over the world? This is the story of the Wretched, a rag-tag group of survivors who may be the only ones that can keep the human race from becoming extinct.

Worth the listen.

I listen to Audiobooks all day at work and this one though not in the top tier was still worth the listen. The story was good the narration was not bad but a bit over the top on occasion. It was good enough that I will invest in the next book in the series in a few months after I listen to others in my library.

Zombie meets Super Soldier

Fast Zombie, Slow Zombie, Smart Zombie, Dumb Zombie, Super Alpha Zombie. This book has them all and it couldn't be more entertaining for it. I think my favorite part was when the Alpha Zombie had to go back to open a door because the other zombies couldn't get through, I laughed quite a bit on that scene. Brian Callanan does a great job with the voice characterizations which really helps give the story life. Two big thumbs up.

I was provided this book as a reviewers copy free of charge in exchange for an honest opinion. I will be continuing the series for sure.

The Wretched

Similar story to them all.Scientist creates the drug, someone tries to steal it and things go awry creating 'monsters'.It does not get interesting until the end. Narration by Brian Callanan was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Great start to a new series

I always love diving into a new series, anticipating a few good future reads. The Wretched did not disappoint for me. I love the slow burn as the story intensifies, and the character development along the way. Sure, the premise has been done before (scientific lab gone wrong) but this story rolls along with each chapter. I really liked how the city was described as deteriorating along with humanity. Give this one a try!

Soooo good

I’ve had this for a month or two but I just wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I didn’t, I loved it! Action packed, relatable characters and a total new take on things apocalyptic. Think maybe it’s a werewolf strain but super cool concept and idea. I’m starting book two tonight.
Brian did an excellent job narrating. I think this is the first book I’ve listen to by him.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Reapers!!!

I enjoyed the different types of reapers there were in this book. Especially how there is an Alpha whom directs them and drive them towards a task. The narrator did a great job with the difference tones for each character.

Unfulfilled Promise

This was an average start to a dystopian series. I hope it gets better as the series progresses. It doesn’t seem like the author spent enough time world building, therefore there are plot holes, characters I really don’t care about, etc...

The narration is spot on by Brian.

Recommended if your looking for a dystopian fix, but don’t expect perfection.

Reapers

I was expecting a zombie apocalypse book, but this one was different. I agree with some of the other reviewers that talk about the fact that in some instances, people turn into monsters quickly while at other times, they are killed outright (without any explanation). Also, toward the end of the book, the group of survivors reach a supposedly safe place only to find one lone Reaper in a very secure building. There was no explanation as to how this person was infected and no mention of other Reapers in the area.

The story was action packed and full of close calls for the group dubbed The Wretched. Since this is the first book in a series, I hope that some of the inconsistencies will be corrected as the series progresses. The series shows promise, but this first book could have been so much better.

The narrator did a great job and kept my attention with his performance. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

Started off slow, then really pulls you in!

The book starts of slow in my opinion, I guess its because all the different characters are getting established and there back story. Glad I stuck around! Once the story got past all that it really picks up the pace and goes by very quick. Enjoyed Book 1 and will begin Book 2 shortly.
