About this listen

The fight for survival starts now.

When recently divorced Catherine Shaw tries to reconnect with her young son Jordan by taking him on vacation in Yellowstone National Park, a series of disturbing events lead her to believe that the dormant supervolcano is on the brink of erupting.

With the clocking ticking down and the aid of a damaged deputy park ranger, they will have to do more than convince the park superintendent of the imminent disaster. Thousands of blissfully unaware tourists have flocked to the serene park, trouble makers are on the loose, and not everyone wants to listen.

The Year Without Summer is a fast-paced supervolcano disaster thriller from the author of Days of Panic and As We Fall. It's a realistic, pause-resisting story about a terrifying event that begins in Yellowstone National Park at the height of summer.

It needed more.

A lot of reviewers did not like the narrator, but I have to disagree with them. I liked the way he narrated the book. Yes, some did sound the same but there were a lot of characters and it is a difficult thing to change your voice for every single one and he is not the worst that I have listened to by a long shot.
My problem is the story itself. I felt the build-up and it reached a high point then nothing. it was anticlimactic.
There are no sexual content, some what would call mild violence and I can't remember if there were any profanity.

Pretty good story.

I kind of liked this story. I'm afraid it didn't have the pounding, relentless pace I like. I do recommend this book. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Not very good.

Theme has been done and better. Narration was annoying. Characters not so interesting. So-so at best.

A departure for Jack Hunt

The characters in the book are centered around a National Park ( Yellowstone) and the Caldera super volcano / Fault.
I had not heard of it before so I looked it up and the information in the book is accurate. This is truly an event that could happen and why Yellowstone has things like Old Faithful. So Mr. Hunt's painting an accurate storyline

It’s not a classic dystopian novel as its more of a natural disaster and the way they cope with the events is well thought out

Think of this book as a how to survive a disaster. I was around in the PNW for Mt. St. Helens and I wish I had none some of the information in the book. Don't think it can happen? Been through one already abet not super close but we got ash, smoke etc

If your looking for a true dystopian adventure try one of Jacks other books like the EMP series he did. This is around a singular event and how they survived. It's fast, the story is good and the listener will learn a thing or two

I was given the book to review. My opinions are mone after listening to it twice and thinking about what my take aways were

Gripping!

The Year Without Summer by Jack Hunt is outside my typical listening genre, but I was captivated by the storyline. The thought of Yellowstone erupting is thought provoking. The author wrote some fantastic and vivid imagery with this listen, and I really enjoyed the action. I thought the narrator did a good performance on some distinguishable voices, but I was expecting more emotion (I'm a romance listener). I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

Volcano Eruption

Good character development and full of action but reminded me of book by Bobby Akart as super volcano eruption in Yellowstone but still decent. Enjoyed the characters of Catherine Shaw, Jordan (her son), Billy and Wyatt the most and I assume is a single due to epilog and not 1st of series. Highly recommend if you like any post-apocalyptic book also recommend author’s Against All Odds and EMP Survival Series which I enjoyed more. Not going to Yellowstone anytime soon!!!

I am a lover of Post Apoc, so naturally I really enjoyed the book. I actually learned a lot from listening that I was not aware of... That's always a bonus... This is my first book by Jack Hunt, but will be listening to more.

Disappointment.

Having read/listened to quite a few of Jack Hunt's book, I have to say I was quite surprised. Generally I enjoy the heck out of Mr. Hunt's stories. Unfortunately that really wasn't the case this time. I was expecting a fast-paced exciting thrill ride, unfortunately that didn't happen. After a very promising intro that hinted at things to come, the story slams on the breaks. Chapters were often little more than discussions between individuals on what the implications of an eruption might mean. I'm guessing Mr. Hunt likely did a lot of research and wanted to share that information, but the way in which it gets told come across dry, and the discussion were barely disguised info dumps. We get tiny glimpses of action, but honestly it wasn't until the last hour and a half or so that anything really happens. Despite that I think the real problem is that I didn't really like any of the characters so I didn't care what happened to them.

Now as for Mr. Stone's narration, it just didn't click with me. There was nothing particularly wrong with his regular voice, but omg when he attempts a female voice...cringe worthy is the only way I can put it. Some male narrators can pull off female voices and some can't. Mr. Stone can't and he shouldn't have even tried.

Given how much I've enjoyed Jack Hunt's books in the past, I am just going to mark this one down as a rare misstep.

Good book, different from the normal

I enjoyed this book as a different theme then the post apocalyptic books I love. I look forward to the 2nd book if another follows. I understand the name of the book, just hope the next makes it come true. Spoiler Yellowstone doesn’t really blow.
