About this listen

The Mockingbird family has always lived peacefully in Jubilee, Kentucky, despite the divisions that mark their small town. Until the tense summer of 1963, when their youngest child, Isaac, falls gravely ill. Middle sister Grace, nearly fourteen, is determined to do whatever it takes to save her little brother. With her father and mother away at the hospital, Grace is left under the loving but inexperienced eye of her aunt June, with little to do but wait and worry. Inspired by a young teacher’s mission for change, she begins to flirt with danger—and with a gifted boy named Golden, who just might be the key to saving Isaac’s life. Then the unthinkable happens, and the world as she knows it shifts in ways she never could have imagined. Grace must decide what she believes amid the swirling, conflicting voices even of those she loves the most.

From gifted songwriter Cindy Morgan comes this lyrical, tender tale of a girl standing at the threshold of adulthood, learning the depths of the human heart and the bonds of family that bend, break, and bind together over and over again.

The Year of Jubilee is one of the best written stories I have ever read. It is warm and inviting. It keeps your interest the entire way through! I’m so sad that it’s over! I will definitely be rereading this one.

LOVE THIS!! Everyone needs to read/listen to TYOJ!

What a wonderful piece of work by singer/songwriter, and now fiction author Cindy Morgan! This book is about love, loss, resiliency... it's about family and community; and it's about the complexities of life - the bonds, the woundings, the adventures we experience both in connection and disconnection with our people. Although set in 1963, it is so appropriate and timely for our present day where we are experiencing such division. This book gives a beautiful opportunity to bring us back to what really matters - love, faith, and humanity, seeing and welcoming that we are all unique, special, and worthy of love and acceptance... and that we all are imperfect. As I listened to this novel, I found myself laughing, on the edge of my seat at times, and also crying... and crying some more. By the end, I found I had gone on quite the emotional journey that brought me a renewed and increased level of compassion for all humans and a desire for us all to be united no matter our unique differences. Well done Cindy Morgan! And thank you for sharing Grace and all the people of Jubilee with us the readers/listeners.

An engaging, emotional walk with a southern family in the 60’s

Cindy’s writing is so descriptive and poetic that you can see and feel that small southern town in your mind’s eye. Growing up in Louisiana in the 70’s, I can see and relate to so many of these characters in the small town I grew up in. The individuals and environment feel very authentic and I was emotionally invested early on in the novel. I have always been a fan of Cindy’s songwriting and now I am a fan of her storytelling as well.

Down Home Southern Story

I have loved Cindy's music since i first heard it in the mid 90's. I was so excited to listen to this book knowing she wrote the soundtrack as well. I was a bit disappointed because the story never grabbed me. There were times i wanted it to be done. i really liked the characters. Aunt June was my favorite character and Sisi's performance was so great.
