Publisher's summary

A genderbent reimagining of the classic fairytale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Theodore Gale is a 25-year-old, unemployed, playboy cowboy with the propensity for getting into fights. After winning a bronco riding competition, he decides to celebrate with a southern belle he sneaks to the barn at the Gale Farm. The following morning should have started with some kinky fun, but instead his life is turned upside down when a green tornado appears and takes Theo’s barn to another world.

With only his gray horse, Toto, as a companion, Theo arrives in Oz. As he tries to make heads or tails out of this strange new world, he ends up liberating various villages from the tyranny of, first, the Wicked Warlock of the East, who was killed accidentally when Theo’s barn dropped on top of him, and secondly, the Wicked Warlock of the West, Jadyn, who’d turned an entire village into toys, enslaved them, and was forcing them to brew potions.

It’s on the outskirts of Toy Village that Theo meets a damsel in distress, who is about to get ripped apart by crows. Her name is Anne Raggedy. She calls herself a Scarecrow, but Theo doesn’t find her very frightening, and actually ends up getting confused boners for the life-size doll. When Theo discovers that Anne used to be human, he decides to travel with her to the Emerald City in order to find a way to break her curse, so he can get laid. Joining them on their quest is a cowardly lioness and a cyborg assassin named Tina Woodcutter.

Twisted fairytale

Really enjoying these genderbent fairytales. You have the over all background of the original story with but with a whole new twist. It allows KuroKoneko to let the imagination run wild and add lots of sexy to mix in with the action.

So funny!

Ahh she does it again, Kurokoneko weaves another tale and this one We all know the story of the Wizard of Oz, but this one is a hoot to listen or read and Mr. Theodore Gale has a sex appeal that drives the ladies crazy. Worth the listening to and enjoying a humorous story that will keep you listening to the bitter end!

A Great Twist On The Wizard Of Oz

Oh my gosh this is laugh out loud funny. I love Theo and all the characters I have yet to read a book by this author that I don't like this one might just be my favorite. I highly recommend. The narration was spot on.

I received a review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left a honest review.

Adventure Awaits!

The cowardly lion wanted courage, the tin man wanted a heart, the scarecrow wanted a brain, and Dorothy wanted to go home. I grew up watching the fantastical story of The Wizard of Oz but this re-telling is such a great twist on the old classic. A story that reveals you are more than what you appear to be on the outside. It’s your actions that decide if you are good or evil and home truly is where the heart is.

I would’ve loved to hear a more country drawl to Theodore’s voice, but he made a great hero. Can’t wait for the next adventure!

Great genderbent OZ retelling

This is another super fun genderbent fairytale retelling by Kamen. It’s the second one I’ve listened too and I’m quickly becoming addicted. The reason I enjoy these books so much is that they are not just straight retellings. They are not even just retellings where the genders are swapped. They are very uniquely done. Kamen does not only put her own twist on the story she also intertwines elements of other tales into the main story which makes it so much more interesting.
This story is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz with a male main character. He picks up 3 female sidekicks as he makes his way to the Emerald City. While the sidekicks are your classic three from the original story they are different in many ways. The scarecrow is not a scarecrow but a raggedy Anne doll, the lion is a genetically altered hybrid and so on. These differences go for all the characters and places within Oz. It sounds outrageous at first but works well within the book. This book had more sex in it that the previous book I listened too by Kamen but it went with the MC’s character traits and personality. It was worked it to fit with the story. The scenes were also tastefully done. I didn’t mind it.
The narrator for the audiobook does well but could perform with a bit more enthusiasm. Also, when a chapter ends I don’t see why it needs to be said that the story continues in the next chapter. I think that’s an obvious conclusion the reader or listener would come to. It doesn’t need to be announced each time. Those are really my only criticisms.
I’m always entertained by these stories and look forward to listening to more of them.

thoroughly enjoyed it

Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: yes
Would I listen to it again: yes

Story comments: Was a delightfully colourful role-reversed retelling of The Wizard of Oz. Action packed with good pacing and interesting characters - this book could easily be made into a remake of the original movie.
It's a complete story for Theo and Anne, but now I need the Wicked Warlock of Oz to find out what happens for Jaydn.

Narrator comments: L. A. Johnson did a good job. His narration throughout this series keeps getting better.

Fun Twist on An Old Tale

I enjoyed listening to this fun twist of an old fairytale, it manages to be different whilst still keeping the old tale to the fore. The characters were interesting and fun, I like Theodore immensely, and loved how both Leo and Anne competed for his attention. I liked the cyborg assassin and the twist in that Toto was no longer a dog, so much better to have a horse to ride! I thought the chemistry and heat generated between the characters was very well done, be warned this is an adult version of this tale, it's not over the top though.

I loved the part where Leo was kidnapped and his subsequent rescue, there were some very enjoyable bits to the retelling of the Wizard of Oz. This is my first listen to a book by KuroKoneko Kamen but it won't be my last it was a lovely escape from everyday life. As well as being my first book by this author it's also my first listen to L. A. Johnson who did a super job on the narration of this book. His narration enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

What did I just listen to?? I'm still processing! This was wild crazy wierd and very entertaining .
It's off the wall hilarious! This is my first foray into gender bent fairytales and I'm liking it. This is a unique take on an old favorite of mine and I'm quite impressed with the author's rendition. The narrator did a great job with voices and expressions. Check it out.
