Publisher's summary

Do you know who your friends are?

When a much-loved Kilmarnock police constable is found beaten to death in his home, all signs point to a burglary gone wrong. But, when a second officer is slain while walking the beat, it becomes clear that something much more sinister is afoot.

Somebody is murdering cops.

Harassed by an infuriating new partner and a teenage true crime podcaster, DI Heather Filson must track down a brutal killer while tensions between the police and the public explode into violence.

With rioting breaking out across Glasgow, and running battles filling the streets, Heather’s latest investigation is no longer just a murder hunt.

It’s a race to stop Scotland’s largest city from tearing itself apart.

This Little Piggy is the second DI Heather Filson novel from multi-million selling Scottish crime fiction author, JD Kirk.

Relatable characters with funny moments

The second in the series and I am loving the characters. The story is fast paced and there are some funny, laugh out loud moments sprinkled in with a thrilling ending. Can’t wait for the next one!

Brilliant!

A twisty plot with complex characters and a very satisfying conclusion. I love Heather more with every book! I can’t wait for the next instalment. Thank you JD Kirk, you never disappoint!

Wonderfully Fun Read

I have read every one of JD Kirk’s three parallel mystery books. I like all of them. I prefer Angus King but this narrator is very good too and appropriate for a female lead.

Kirk’s dialogue is always spot on. And even without the mystery, I could listen to his books just to “enjoy the company” of the lovable characters he has created. It’s a little like Seinfeld or Friends - I never tire of his dialogue. He’s a master.

Surprised how much I liked this!

Heather Filson is no longer the object of my disdain. This is 2nd in series, and I really liked it, although story was not as intense as the first one. Heather is turning out to be smart and real. I like her more, the better I get to know her - especially her family story. **(Important to read 1st book in series first!)**
There are some flaws in this one. Ace’s portrayal of neurodivergence (Aspergers) is good. Tammy Jo doesn’t drive me as crazy as she does some other listeners. But her ADHD portrayal is far from believable. It comes and goes. Really unrealistic. Equally (or more) unrealistic is that she would have made it into the status of detective with her very frequent inability to stop herself from rambling on, coupled with some silly naivety. But she has redeeming qualities. I’m hopeful writer will get better grip on her portrayal in future books in the series - which I will buy. (This one ends with obvious lead in to next book).

Another great one by JD Kirk

After first meeting her in the DCI Jack Logan series, I can’t believe I actually love Heather Filsen. The addition of DC Swanie is brilliant. Thanks for writing a crime novel where women are portrayed as intelligent and tough instead of strictly subordinate to men. Truly a great read with some dry Scottish humor dotted around. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Great

This was a great liston. I very much like all the characters. There are some area's that were hard to follow be it the language, or accent. Nonetheless I really enjoyed this story.

Easy to follow

The mystery was a challenge, but enjoyable. it was easy to catch on to who the various characters were.

I enjoyed the story with dark humor and mystery

I have mixed feelings. There are a lot of things to love about this book. There is a gritty murder mystery, many suspects and motives anthe chatty Tami joins Heather's team and drives her crazy. This series has more humor that the Jack Logan series, which I love and slightly less dark humor than the crazy Hoon series. And of course I have to read every book of every series! Have to. The Heather Filson series lacks some of the police team character depth and interactions that I love in the Logan series. The other police characters are a little flat. The narration in the Audible series is good and she gets the accents and male and female characters well except for Heather. It feels like Heather's voice is too young and immature. Overall a good listen though.
