About this listen

International Excellence Body, Mind, Spirit Book Awards winner: Self-help.

Women spend so much of life nurturing and giving to others that when they find themselves alone because of an empty nest, the end of a marriage, or the death of a partner, they often struggle with feeling purposeless. This Way Up: Seven Tools for Unleashing Your Creative Self and Transforming Your Life provides a step-by-step way out of this sense of loss and into a life filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and joy.

This story of healing centers on the essential wisdom of introspection and on the importance of following one’s dreams. Join the protagonist, Katya, a widow whose two sons have recently left home, as she learns seven tools for uncovering her best self: visualization, heart-centered goal setting, positive focus, meditation on love, meditation on forgiveness, gratitude, and taking action on inspiration.

Katya’s experience highlights these insights in an easily digestible, highly relatable format that listeners can systematically apply to their own circumstances as they work through This Way Up's 12 weeks’ worth of day-by-day journaling exercises, thought-provoking questions, and listener support.

For any woman who yearns to lead a fuller life but doesn’t know how to begin, this audiobook is an ideal starting point.

Not What I Was Expecting

I was a bit disappointed with this book. I thought it would give a bit of backstory then move quickly to the unleashing and transforming. However it takes about half the book to start revealing the transforming and then it's interwoven into a story. This might be helpful to some but to me I felt the title was a bit misleading.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

What a Relatable Story!

So many of us have been in the author's shoes or at least her flip-flops. The first part is a narrative about the tragic death of the writer's husband and her having to cope with Empty Nest Syndrome when her "baby" goes off to college. Unfortunately, alcoholism runs in her family and she hasn't escaped unscathed. She's in denial until she wakes up in the hospital. The second half of the book is a 12 week workbook with meditations and writing exercises to find your passion in life and access more fulfillment. That IS what we're looking for, isn't it? Many books point out the problems but don't lead to a positive solution. I enjoyed listening to this book due to the evocative portrayal of the narrator. Her vitality brought the author's words to life.

Insightful- engaging narration!

Although This Way Up - 7 Tools for Unleashing Your Creativity and Transforming Your Life- is targeted to women, I found the insights and guidance applicable to everyone.
The narrator, Janice Kent, enveloped me with her warmly engaging voice.
I would recommend this book for anyone looking to improve their outlook on their lives.

Re-routing

This book resonated. As a single mother of long-grown kids, I remember how hard it was to imagine what purpose my life still had once the kids were gone. I had followed society's expectation of placing myself toward the bottom of my priority list. Now what?

The author's journey to embrace and celebrate what comes next is exhilarating. The narration is on point, and without giving too much away, I challenge you to listen to this book and just try to feel dismal about what lies ahead. Thank you to author Patti Clark for the opportunity to review her audiobook.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
