About this listen

“What a treat.”—Washington Post

“Simply exquisite.”—Liane Moriarty

“Nobody understands human nature better than Tyler. And nobody understands the complexities of love the way she does.”—Boston Globe

Three Days in June is like reading a hug.”—Minneapolis Star Tribune

A new Anne Tyler novel destined to be an instant classic: a socially awkward mother of the bride navigates the days before and after her daughter's wedding.

Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit.

But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.

Told with deep sensitivity and a tart sense of humor, full of the joys and heartbreaks of love and marriage and family life, Three Days in June is a triumph, and gives us the perennially bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer at the height of her powers.

Critic reviews

“Anne Tyler remains my favourite author in the world. I’ve adored everything she’s ever written. Three Days in June is, of course, simply exquisite.” —Liane Moriarty

“Tyler lights up the space between people, and shows how it feels to be on the outside looking in. This is her superpower.”—Elisabeth Egan, New York Times

“Another delightfully assured exploration of the way sorrow and joy meld together in the crucible of family life. . . . [It] seems to defy the conventions of romantic comedy until it finally, gloriously gives in. . . . What a treat to listen in on this banter. . . . Few writers can weave the threads of dialogue with such casual brilliance as Tyler. . . . She and her shelf of celebrated novels sit confidently at the end of a circuitous line that winds back through Jane Austen’s novels to Shakespeare’s comedies.”—Ron Charles, Washington Post

A Pleasant Surprise

I am not a fan of Anne Tyler, But I decided to give her another chance with this short novel. I am very glad I did! Good writing, a well structured plot, interesting characters, and lots of humor fill this book. I laughed alot! There is even a sweet cat for the feline fanciers of Audible. I recommend "Three Days in June" for Tyler fans and Tyler non-fans alike!

Interesting but short

Such a short book. Only 4 hours. I would have liked for the story to continue. So much more could be developed with these characters.

Just Perfect - and PERFECTLY narrated

What fun to get a new Anne Tyler book. And what fun to have it expertly read by J. Smith Cameron (Gerri from “Succession”.).

Tyler hasn’t lost a step — her prose is as beautiful and compelling as ever and Cameron brings the characters to life in such an authentic and engaging manner that you just don’t want it to end. (Which it does, all too abruptly after about 4 hours!)

Simple, Enjoyable, performed 5 stars

The narrative unfolded beautifully, and I particularly appreciated the interwoven themes of forgiveness, the importance of new beginnings, and the liberating act of letting go of past regrets and the pursuit of an unattainable ideal of perfection. The story's exploration of these powerful concepts resonated with me.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the book overall, the conclusion felt somewhat empty and left me wanting more. The open ending, while potentially setting the stage for a sequel, left a sense of incompleteness for me personally. This feeling of being left slightly unsatisfied was further amplified by the fact that I devoured the entire book in under a day – a testament to its compelling nature, yet also a touch disappointing as it meant my reading adventure ended rather quickly.

Now, the challenge is finding a new book equally engaging to keep me company during my treadmill sessions. I'm eager to discover my next literary escape!

It’s a love story

In some ways I was not prepared for the end but like most of Anne Tylers books the two key characters are well developed.

Beautifully performed

Anne Tyler has written a gem that speaks eloquently about a woman and her thoughts during the weekend of her daughter‘s marriage.

Gail Baines, assistant Director at an exclusive Girl’s school, has just quit her job after being passed over for a promotion. Add to that, a free wedding spa day was organized for her daughter and she wasn’t included. When she arrived home, her ex-husband Max arrives on her doorstep unannounced with a cat. Later that same day, their daughter Debbie arrives quite upset over something she found out about Kenneth. Should the wedding continue? The situation brings up the divorce of Gail and Max.

Heartbreaking because it seemed to me Gail could not forgive herself yet Max did.

The ending was beautifully written I brought a tear to my eye. I listen to this on Audible and it was well performed. Five strong stars from me.

Another Gem

I’ve read all of her books, mostly as they were published. Several are among my favorites by any author & I reread them often. I moved to Baltimore in the late 70s and that doubled the meaning as I experienced the culture & locations. This book hit me hard with a theme that Tyler explores so often, failed marriage and people stuck in time with their mistakes, sometimes moving forward, sometimes not. But usually building family along the way.

This book was so real

Loved loved loved this book. For only being 4 hours long it packed a lot in. The conversations were so real and what dry wit the author has. Fantastic narrator. I must read another Tyler book. This was my first and I hated for it to be over.
