About this listen

The #1 New York Times bestselling author, whose books so many love, brings us a fresh, contemporary story of a woman and her unruly blended family

“Nobody writes women the way Jojo Moyes does.”—Jodi Picoult

Lila Kennedy has a lot on her plate. A broken marriage, two wayward daughters, a house that is falling apart, and an elderly stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Her career is in freefall and her love life is . . . complicated. So when her real dad—a man she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago—suddenly appears on her doorstep, it feels like the final straw. But it turns out even the family you thought you could never forgive might have something to teach you: about love, and what it actually means to be family.

Critic reviews

“No one writes women of a certain age better than Jojo Moyes—reminding us that we matter, even when the world tries to make us invisible. It takes a master of the craft to catalog the messy vicissitudes of life in a way that both haunts and validates the reader’s own experiences, and her latest novel proves that there is no time like the present to rewrite one’s own story.”—Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of By Any Other Name

“Jojo Moyes is as wise, funny and glorious as ever with We All Live Here. She never ever disappoints.”—Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author of None of This Is True

“We All Live Here is so funny, touching, and full of wisdom: Jojo Moyes at her very best.”—Sophie Kinsella, New York Times bestselling author of The Burnout

Dear Listener,

What was my favorite part about writing this story?
"My favorite part of writing this story was writing Gene, who came to life almost immediately (this rarely happens with characters) and, in fact, threatened to run away with the whole book. My favorite scene to write was one that takes place between him and his granddaughter, Celie, with whom he has had no prior relationship and who is having a bad time at school. Gene walks with Celie to the local park where he gives her an actor’s lesson in body language. I hadn’t planned how this scene would go, but somehow, because of the dynamics between them, it managed to be touching and sad and funny, all within the space of a few pages. Basically, an author’s dream (well, mine anyway)."– Jojo Moyes, writer of We All Live Here

Another great book by Jojo Moyes

Jojo helps us laugh at what real life often looks like! Nice to have an uplifting story that isn’t all fantasy.

Interesting characters

Somewhat predictable and not always entertaining. Lots of characters. The story was wrapped up well

Beautiful

Just because it can be messy doesn't mean that life can't also be beautiful too.

A bit anti climactic but still fine

I liked it but it was a bit lack luster . So many characters,A storyline that could have easily been amazing,I liked the premise but it was just lack luster. It was a solid read but it could or should have had more passion ,more emotion, more everything.

Fun- but maybe too much?

Enjoyable story. Loved how real the characters seemed. Just the right amount of humor. However, lots of people and lots happening. Needed some editing-but I did enjoy it.

Too many "make a face"

Liked the book, good story but she used "make a face" instead of using other phrases.
